About This photograph is for Subhash Sen.

I sowed four seeds in October of 2004, thinking I could squeeze in some blooming plants before the chill set in, but winter came too soon. The plants endured rain, hail, darkness and near zero temperatures. They remained small, 12 inch plants in the winter. They slowly died off except one, making it to March of 2005, to see the warming rays of the sun. It's now 6 feet tall, with 31 yellow & russett blooms. This photograph is also about a successful conversion from a non-functioning spare parts Diana~(Banner) camera, to a fully-working toy cam: I removed the Diana lens and moved it into a Holga 120N, right inside the bored-out lens barrel. And then I made a 41mm x 41mm frame mask out of a 6x45 mask because a Diana lens can barely cover 39x39mm. Now the Holga shoots 16 to 18 shots. But is the camera a Diana or a Holga? Tough dilemma <;^)

Thank you, Melanie. Yeah, a little sadness, especially when I think of all its siblings that didn't get to see spring time except for this one. I'm so glad you like it.

Great photo .. the technical perspective makes the shot of this sunflower just fit .. the black to bright circles of vignetting + the hidden sun behind the flower .. perfectly composed for this kind of camera !

Tips and tricks, now that's a great idea. But just ask, and it won't cost you a thing! Say, did you get your Holgaroid yet?

Oh, you mean strips of gaffer's tape? Yes, that's standard equipment on toy cams, LOLOL. Thanks, Thilo.

Hi Mark,

well, I really love both the picture and the about. I'm fascinated what these toy cams do with their users. Not only do they see the world through a different lens, they gonna mod that thing! Saturday, I trapped myself buying some stuff to mod the body with strips! =)

like that out of focus-focus here. very distinct and special perspective.

I like the photo and I like the "about", Mark. They're both extraordinary, the story and the photo.
Thank you for your detailed comment on my "I am Yoav!"
Yoav (I dont know how to spell it in English), but he is our second eldest grndson, named after King David's chief of staff who was later assassinated for having killed Absalom. They ( our family members) are all aware that their photos will be posted and Yoav posed deliberately for that purpose.
Best regards,
Rafi

Hi Hansi; the bright-and-beautiful subject matter is among the hardest, because one has to really think about not presenting another cliche. I just saw it and made an exposure, convinced that it would just be a test shot and nothing else more than a cliche shot. Maybe it is, maybe not, but liked it enough to share it. I'm glad you like it too. Thank you.

Hi Ann; for me, gardening is just water and fertilizer. Don't know what else. A knack perhaps. Thanks,

That camera is a roaring success if you ask me! This really is a toy cam masterpiece. I like the rich and dark treatment of what is 'bright and beatiful subject matter'. Super shot, Mark.

It really does look otherwordly, Carolyn. It's like a big bush, now. And it moves with the wind. Quite nice to look at. Thanks!

I don't know, but it sure is an interesting photo! It looks somehow "otherwordly," like an alien flower. I love the tones and lighting on this! Wonderful photo!
