Q. Hot lights causing problems (warning - nude)

Hi

I purchased an Interfit STeller Pro 1000w halogen light with diffuser etc but am having problems....

To do low key the shutter speeds are too long and the model has to be very still. Will I be able to produse the same effect using say a 500W strobe but be able to use a higher speed and will the flash firing help freeze subject movement?

How do I meter for the strobe - place next to the part of the body with the biggest highlight and take an incedent reading ?
