About	Today is the first day of 'Fleet Week' here in the San Francisco Bay. For the last 6 years, I have been away from home for this weekend. For once, I am home, and our work has re-located to the SF Presideo. Lunch today was the perfect break in the day to watch the 'The Blue Angel's' practice in the bay, as they do every year before the show on Sunday. In the early afternoon, they had come out for a second session. The rain had stopped, and the sun started to break. it was a full on show in the bay, and everyone from work came out in the sun to watch, as you couldn't get any work done with it sounding like the flight deck from "Top Gun" outside. The one amazing vision, is that of when a modern fighter jet gives the illusion that it's going away from you, when in fact, it's coming at you. Like an Escher. Brilliant and beautiful design, the F/A-18 Horent. I'm so glad that I'm around this weekend for the show.

The trick (besides luck) to getting images like this, are to not only have a lens that can do it, but to shot A LOT of images at the same time! This was the case for this, in that I have about 10 images of the planes closing in on where I was standing. I pretty much filled my 1gig card in a matter of minutes! ...but it's what ya' gotta do to get the shot!

Great shot here, I like the vertical line-up. Question: What's the best way to capture planes in the air since they are moving so fast and most of the time you need a telephoto lens.

...yes... i am happy with the new lens! :)

yeah...the IS does eat up battery life. Just this week, i picked up the battery extender for my 20D. So, now I have double battery power, and it added a little extra size to my camera body..and that's a good thing, because the lens was making the body look tiny, and now I have a little extra to hold on to for balance!

off to work... the angels are out again today for practice, and i'm going to fill up my gig card again!

Great shot; you are just showing off that new lens!:)
It is razor sharp.
I have a smaller non-L with stabilizer (17-85) and have noticed that the little puppy can suck your battery dry at a much faster rate.
