Hard to understand why American people put church far away from people.

Thanks for the reply, George. Reminds me of my sister and brother-in-law in Texas. They commute 50 and 80 miles in different directions! Need three cars so there's always a spare... Here in Japan there are far fewer churches, so we travel further than you might expect, but public transport runs everywhere, so no-one drives. If I am ever in your part of the world it would be a real pleasure to meet and be shown some photogenic "sights."

Hi Roger - You might be surprised at how many people come from so far to attend services and worship here on a regular basis. The old concept of a city parish just doesn't apply here. I would guess that people come from around a radius of 50 to 75 miles. The concept and sense of time and distance is quite different in the west. People think nothing of driving 100+ miles just to visit friends. Without all the congestion and tolls that big cities impose on people, the trip itself becomes a part of the joy of the day. Perhaps some day I could be your guide.

It's a beautiful setting for a church, that's for sure. But is it near enough to people who would want to worship there? It looks as if it might be miles from anywhere...

I was fortunate enough to be able to take a trip to Sedona 2-3 years ago and did visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross. Indeed it is a site to see inside and out. Wonderful image!
