Roger - I have no real religious view regarding fisheyes. I guess the acceptance of distortion has more to do with how good it looks and does it work as an artistic piece. I don't know if every one appreciates the challenge in visualizing either very wide angle work or fisheyes or even panoramas. The real point is how do YOU like it.
Cheers - John B who is not as frequent at UseFilm as he would like to be

If this were taken in Los Angeles...there would be half a pick-up truck on this side of the tracks! Very well done sir.

Ian, you and I are probably at opposite ends of the light intensity spectrum. There is no moisture here to filter it, no clouds and no soft plants to eat it either. If I know I will be out in it all day, it really is a good idea to wear a long sleeve shirt and hat. I swear you can feal the light pressing down on you. And yes, I do miss the softer light much of the time.

Details - details require time and thus skill. Quite by accident, I myself shot some restaurant art last week. I guess I must post it now. Well composed and the flower is justt hesort of detail that tells us about the food inside!

Roger, your continuing series of curiosities (for us) from Japan are educational and entertaining. It takes time to see the nuances of a culture and you bring us these almost every time. I found it interesting that they have slanted they eyes of the pig. Do Japanese pigs actually have asian eye lids? Sorry for not commenting (or posting) more but I have been traveling on business and by the time I get home, bed seems more attractive than the computer. Cheers and thanks once again.

Your horizon in the sand is tilted. The shadow is out of focus and there are an even number of visual objects. At least the fabric under the hourglass is not wrinkled!

Wow 2 Phill's and 2 Eric's in one short time.
Okay who pushed who to post?

I love it! The exteme tilt does let you concentrate on the lines and textures you wanted.
Makes an interesting image outa boring building!

Two Goldwasser images in such a short time!
I am blessed.

Baltimore! No wonder I haven't seen you in such a long time. 'Course with my new job I seem to be in town only about 30% of the time and my posting rate has gone to near zero. Nicely balanced lighting on this one!

Certainly is an unusual effect. My only complaint is the fence. I think it would have been a stronger image had you walked up and shot over it. Still its a striking image. Cheers

I like the presentation with the "keeper" dominating the smaller almost shots. Chill Riley, in a few years this will all make sense, or not.

As in life, its always a compromise. Shooting raw does permit you to maximize the potential for an image. I say potential because not all of us are as fluent with image processing as we would like to be. I do have one friend here who is struggeling to get his raw images to look as good as his jpegs. The problem is in his head and frankly most people do much better. The down side to raw is time and space. Time to move/process files and space. If you don't own 100's of Gb on your hard drive you will soon! All that being said, I shoot jpeg under "normal conditions" and raw when ever I feel uncertain. Whatever, dont forget its just a hobby and enjoy it!

Whoa- are the polar ice caps melting, has dog lain down with cat? Roger has gone digital (partially for now?) Roger I love this sequence. Your ability to lean out nearly directly over is stunning evidence of how the buildings there must be laid out. Were you to do the same from my office you would see yourself behind unattractive fencing looking at a big street and then a railroad track. I like yours better. Enjoy and post. we love 'em.

Sad about the beer. 25 years ago a fire fighter friend of mine had to work in a liquor store. Had to pull the racks down to get at the fire behind the walls. Said all that good liquor being destroyed almost made him cry. Very good action shot, like the low perspective. JB

Very nice - I dont know about the cloud. Could you have gotten lower down and closer to the goa? The idea is to keep the tree from going over the bar a bit. cool!

I agree with Miles. On the other hand you got lucky (or did you wait) for a boat to fill the water space. The perspective of the gargoyle makes it appear it is looking at the Tower and that adds to the image as well. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Good morning Don. I hope you got closer for those really interesting rocks than this image. It set the stage well but frankly, the tree is a stronger element. You may have taken another shot just to the right of this one. That would seperate the tree from the totem poles a bit and that would make it a stronger image IMHO. I love the good capture of the stone earth texture in the foreground. Looks like you had fun and I have another location to visit!
Cheers

Thank you Fabiola. Your comments are kind. The boy had been traveling and gotten ill. His illness made him relax in front of the camera.

Bill - yes I did get to the other site as well but those images are on another card and I will have to get to them later this week. I was there at sunset the night before but the conditions were not great. Did you get to the sunset crater site? Very cool abut hard to shoot. Thanks for stopping by. - JB

I may be putting too much into my read on this image Roger, but I think this is first time I have ever seen human level 'hate' in the expression of an animal. Snarling dogs are just animals but this is something else. Its a rare image that usefilm should be very proud of hosting.

Michael, I think you have done a wonderful job here. You have really captured a pair of different emotion states and when you mix that in with the wedding knowledge, it make for a rather somber image. The use of black and white does lend a tone to the image as well. The groom looking down at her hand really adds to the "not your regular wedding shot" flavor. Very good, I like it. Now shall we take odds on how long they stay married?

Good morning Roger. Strange - I have abeen away for awhile and when I opened my friends foldern this B&W jsut jumped out. There is still a place for B& W ! You images continue to force me to adjust my expectations of what Japan and Tokyo must be like. More open space and greenery than I imagine. This is a compelling image in that regard. Keep up the good work - John B

Sorry to not comment recently Roger, I have been too dang busy with work. I like this image and I am still trying to "be content with less than the whole thing". In this case I would add, Don't be afraid to fight gravity. Not every thing has to stand straight. Cheers. John B
