Wonderful sils of the windmill against a very colorful yet calm sunset. This could even be fit in the minimalism project and look how even a minimalist approach can make a composition with brilliant mood of calmness. Tha standstill of the windmill speaks for a feeling of quiteness, so is the wonderful gradient of color at the BG. I want to think time stands here, as still as it can be...
Best regards,
Bhabesh

we don't like them here either, especially near towns and nature preserves.
The noise can be deafening and they're regular meatgrinders, killing thousands of birds each year.
Farmers find wind and rain patterns around them changing as well, which can lead to miniature droughts.

This is my favourite of the two... love the motion in the blades you've caught here (alas, could not get that effect on my humble Lumix on my visit.

Very interesting to see your's have two blades to the three we are used to seeing here in UK.

I love how these line the side of the road... I do like seeing these things (although some in my area are protesting against a new windfarm I embrace the idea)

Seeking permission to get into a bigger windfarm in the near future so hopefully I will get some closer shots of the windmills... looking forward to the experience :)

Hey Jeroen,

This is a very pretty image ... well composed! May I suggest another name "Solar wind". And to think most people visit your counrty for the older variety of windmills ;o)

Thanks for your concern Jeroen! I really appreciate a good critique. The image was taken in Friesland. I don't know exactly where it was, but it was near Joure. On a trip with Peter Bolman. Perhaps you know this good photographer...

Hi Jeroen,
Lovely clear photo of this gorgeous Samoyed but personally I would have preferred a three quarter view of the face so the alert expression would be shown in the eyes and of course, the 'Sammy smile'

Jeroen -- This fellow has a most interesting and handsome face and you have shown the detail well. Seldom do I see this angle for an animal portrait and it gives a fresh view. Very enjoyable to view and the title fits well.

Very nice shot Jeroen, this is a deserved award!!!
But I like to tell you some thinks.
I don't agree with many words you have used against me ("Grand High Mufti Leonardo", and many others), but it's ok, lets finish that question, and forget it. You, as a judge, can delete that thread, and I really think is the best thing to do. My objective wasn't confusion or faith at all. I would like to keep making nominations from other photographers, because I reaaly love to apreciate good photographs. So, I ask you again, let's forget that discussion!

Jeroen:
This image is very well done. The warm golden color with it's various hues and the blended light levels are pleasing to the eye and the dark upper and lower portions of the image work very well to not only contain that magical color but also to pull the eye into the image. As Roby mentioned, an outstanding atmosphere. The tack sharp silhouetted foliage in the foreground makes this a much better image to appreciate than it would otherwise have been . . . and the man-made structures on the distant bank make for a nice, though subdued, accent to the composition. You've exposed perfectly to retain details in even the brightest orange clouds . . . and the sunbeams look both realistic (unlike the PS sunbeams one often sees added to compositions) and very tranquil. The mirrored water surface reflection of this brilliant, warm light seems to indicate a slower shutter speed and I think many would have used that slower shutter speed for that reason; but it's not necessary . . . and you have to pay the price for that with less focal clarity on the all-important foreground foliage.
Awesome image Jeroen!

Doyle I <~~~~~~

First to Jeroen-- this is such an amazing photo and I am near-speechless at the beauty and quality. It is such an eye-popper with exceptional color and detail. I am adding it to my favorites.
Now to Dave-- After you posted yours I posted a Peek-A-Boo of the same subject and did not see yours first. It is posted at:
http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1233225
I apologize, for I would have picked a different title if I had seen yours previously posted. Probably should go in the category of Great Minds Think Alike. (Perhaps an overstatement).
--Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season to you both--

This is so PERFECT and deserve an AWARD here

Not even Heather Angel could capture such very well exposed photograph of this Insect.

Well Done, your photograph is the best here on UF and the way you expose and compose your images is to the top quality.

How do you think this would look if you cropped out the sun, about 25% off the top, and cloned out the sundogs in the left foreground; redo your curve to lighten shadows on facing side of building and give more tonal detail to people; and finally add a neutral gradient to sky w/overlay blending @ 40% to add more drama to clouds (you might tray a shadow burning too)?
There are PS channel mixer techniques that would give you more control and better BW results than desaturation, you can then use another channel mixer adjustment layer to get a sepia tone.

Hi Jeroen! Sigma 105mm: is this the way to go for macros? I'm not going to mortgage the house for one, and I notice you don't think much of the 70-300's. This doesn't look as sharp as it might be, but I assume I can put this down to your handheld contortion rather than the lens itself...

I like your composition of this photo and the DOF. I think it tells a story with the image of leftover wine and dessert. Must have been yummy.
