I know at the time I was at Maui I had a film camera and well lets say the film and delevoping all the film cost about as much as my airfare. I sure loved it there. I was going to go to the big Island this year but the day I was going to make reservations they had a big earthquake. Excellent capture and photograph.

Thanks Mary - the trip up and back from the Crater was so neat. Don't remember ever driving through clouds like that before. Surreal.

This looks so good in the panorama. I love how the clouds seem to be rising up from below the hills. Your placement of that clump of trees is a great compositional element.

Jan -- I'd take shooting from my backyard every time over fighting for tripod space among the many thousands of viewers. Sounds like a great setup! From the relative size of the bursts in the frame, it's probably better to photograph them from a distance. Great stuff!

We watch the fireworks from our back yard (of course all of the outside and inside lights were off so it was really dark) and since 1997 they have always set them off in the same direction. I used a tri-pod, manual setting, mirror lock up (I think), shutter speed on this one was 9 sec @ F11, ISO 100, focal was 35 mm, no flash. I used a remote shutter release and once I saw the rocket streak going up I pressed the button and held until that particular burst was finished. There were a number of shots during the finale where I just held the button down. Those shots were filled with bursts of color all over, but the pictures weren't as clear as this one. You should try shooting fireworks - lots of fun. Have thought about going up to the stadium (about 1/2 mile from our house) and setting up there and getting some really close up shots, but it is so nice here in my back yard knowing that I don't have to be squished in with 10,000-15,000+ people to watch not to mention trying to get out of there when it's over and back home. Thanks for the comment.

Very nicely done! You've achieved crisp focus here. I like this one best, too, of your fireworks shots. I really like the contrast of the blue & white burst above the red burst and the fainter green burst nestled beneath. I've never tried to shoot fireworks. Do you prefocus on a set point?

Cheers,
-Mike.

Hi Jan. I guess a lot of people are busy. I know I certainly do not have the same time to spend on photography and on UF as I used to. It is not that my interest has lessened, other things in life have placed demands on my time. I, too have noticed that a number from my Friends list have not been as active as they have been at times. Well, we all do what we need to and what we can.
Your comment made me smile when I read that you have "done quilt a bit of traveling this summer". I suspect quiltng is still a love of yours.

Thanks for the comments on my recent shots. Have done quilt a bit of traveling this summer and have not been able to post or comment on some of the outstanding shots I have seen. Will try and do better. (I haven't really noticed too many comments being posted on the shots of photographers that used to upload and get bunches. Haven't noticed a lot of the people on my friends list posting anything. Where is "everyone"??? Jan

That sounds like it could be an attention getting drive for both the road conditions and the scenery. Nice view.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my image. I took a look at your portfolio, and from the few pages I looked at - wow, you appear to travel quite a lot. Will have to visit your web site when I have a few more minutes. Jan
