Mine's a 6X please.

A pleasant scene, but me - I'd have cropped the top and the bottom to concentrate on the subject.

Off to quench my Thirst.

Nice simple composition. Funny how it's called thirsty work yet he is surrounded by water.

In the height of its powers in the 1950's it would have been well maintained but near the end of steam in the 1960's it would have been covered in grease and grime.

Wonderful light in this one, Nigel.
I know Barnstaple fairly well having lived in Devon for many years before moving to Martock.
I like this view of it ~ well done.
Kind regards, Chris

I reckon you must have stayed in the same hotel, same bedroom that Margaret and I stayed in all of 6 years ago. The weather has got better since then though. Beautiful evening and beautiful image. Nice one Nigel.

very interesting light, especially on the large white building near the centre - at first glance I couldn't tell if this was a photograph or a painting

Hi Nigel - great to see a blast from the past like that ... EXTERMINET...EXTERMINATE...EXTERMINATE!

(love the dalek grafitti by the way!)

one thought to the blur effect. It looks good towards the bg (apart from the missed bit on the top left corner!) - but looks a bit odd at the bottom (in the fg) where the tardis is apparently in sharp focus (no blur) and the ground next to it is fully blurred.

Still... that doesn't detract me from images of Tom Baker running round with a robot dog following him everyehere...

It was nice to see some of your other pics... being from england myself (from Lancahire) - is great to see pics of Wales and Scarborough - i spent much of my youth on family holidays in Scarbourough and Whitby.

Great memories brought back by your pic -

thank you!

Steve

A typical railwayman's pose Nigel, only thing missing is a billy can full of tea. Grain? Noise? I don't see any, too interested in other things. Nice one.

Thanks for the comments Femke,I did consider a mono treatment for this bit I still prefer the colour version because of the mixed and muted shades

This is a very nice picture with a good composition. If you don't mind I change the photo into B&W, for me the photo is than more stronger. Anyway, a perfect shot. Regards, Femke

A great portrait, with wonderful natural framing of the cab, you certainly don't need to change a thing, and yes it is like a great painting

Very good, like the way you have shown some of his surroundings; that's usually preferable to a straight portrait in my book.

Excellent study of an interesting subject Nigel. The soft light is ideal for this. I think a slight crop off the left may add to the overall composition. Nice work. Regards John

Excellent composition Nigel and from an unusual viewpoint. Just a few extra yards makes all the difference. The sanders being used on the Black 5 really adds to the framing. One for Steam Railway?

I like the extra contrast, Icerock, but unfortunately you have overcompensated for the tilting. Your version is tilting more than the original, except the other way!! What you need to look at is not the train, (which might well be tilting quite 'naturally' with the curve of the track, etc.), but the straight line upright of the window behind the train.

Here's my attempt at straightening it, for what it's worth!

Kind regards, Chris
