Hi Jon, Thanks for the info. I was browsing through a book the other day titled 100 Top Most Unusual Sites In Ontario... Apparently we have a few of these partially built and abandoned "money pits" too. :) From your thumbnail this one almost does look like an ancient dig of some sort. Pompei maybe? Andre
Hi, Andre - it's a wannabe dam. The City of Prince Albert thought it might become an economic powerhouse by building a hydroelectric dam (including canal and lock system for river traffic) across the North Saskatchewan River. Alas, it turned out to be a pipe dream, the feds refused to cough up any bail-out money and the city beggared itself for decades trying to pay off the loan. But it's a picturesque place, miles from nowhere, rising out of the jungle and extending half way out into the river like some ancient, abandoned Cambodian temple (the spray paint graffitti does kind of detract from that a bit). No doubt some kid is going to get himself killed out there some night and then the government will tear it down and that will be the end of yet another interesting bit of history.
