About One of my first astro-photos. A long exposure of 10 min on a fixed tripod shows the sky (earth) rate of rotation. The camera was aimed at the North Star (polaris). It was a very fortuitous shot as the aurora were not yet visible to the eye. 20 minutes later they would have ruined the shot.

Beautifully captured Greg! The auroras with the star trails are a stunning combination.

Nice shot, Greg! This is from Shane's cottage back in late August? Despite the aurora's relative dimness and uniformity, it managed to show up pretty well on film. In fact, it's thanks to the subleness of the aurora that you could push the exposure much longer to get the star trail effect. Well done!

Hi Greg,

Welcome to usefilm! This is a great picture. It`s not often that you see a star trail picture with an aurora. Great work and keep posting!

Thanks again Margaret. BTW I did touch up my Parliament Hill per your suggestions and I do like it better. Cheers, Greg

Thank You Ciprian. It was my first attempt at it and I was pleasantly surprised myself.

Wow, I love this sort of shot! Very effective and great colours in the sky. The trees also offer a good bit of foreground interest.

Regards,
Ciprian

Cool capture, Greg. Star trail shots are so interesting and always great to look at. How fortunate that the aurora wanted to be included as it provides a nice glow. It's neat how the differing magnitudes are so obvious. Having the tree on the right adds a good perspective without being intrusive. I think perhaps taking out the little tree top on the left would keep one's eye focused on the 'main event' of your lovely shot.

Thanks Vanessa, but the star trails technique is well known to astrophotographers, it's definitely not original. So I can't accept the "brilliant" accolade. And I was also just lucky that the aurora showed up in the picture.
