Very beautiful scenary!!
Excellent composition!!perfect light, splendid colour, tones, magnificent the contrast obtained from the bushes and the light that illuminates them, gives prominence to the dof, the depth of field is arrogant!!
Suggestive the atmosphere!!
Congrats

Beautiful, subtle light in this one John.
Spent four weeks driving around the south island about ten years ago, before hollywood discovered it, and still rave about the place to friends to this day.

Ahh well seen!! thats indeed where the canvas splits where the bark alters... it just about lines up with the horizon of the distant mountain range quite a lot of Euc's have this rough barked base type.. helps deter critters from scaling them!! Sorry specs.. are they for cameras? I have stopped looking crikey I have my DCS Pro 14n and will be stuck with it for a fat five years before I can retool I am afraid

Bold statement Rog to split the canvas into two. What has eaten the bark off the top of the tree trunk?

Have you seen the spec for the D200? Looks good. Have my pre-order in; 4th on the list. Just can't rationalise spending $8000 NZ for a D2X.

Some people see weather like this as gloomy, but I see it as dramatic and as vital as a day without clouds. Lovely.

Aha, so it was digital darkroom. John. I have one, too, and use it for more than I was ever able to do with my own wet and smelly darkroom, including COLOUR of course! I use the inherent latitude of film to give me something of the playroom that shooting raw gives to digital photographers. Doesn't always work, but it saves me from losing my wide-angle lenses to the digital X-factor.

Thanks Roger, yes you are spot on with your observation but as Ansell Adams was quoted as saying. "the negative is only the score.. The print is the symphony.

One of the joys of the digital darkroom is to shot raw and then interpet as Muse sways you.

Ingrid, first thank you for your flattering comments on my work and adding me to your friends list. Secondly thank you for introducing me to your work. Only one word needed to describe your pictures, stunning. I will take great delight in looking at each work in detail. I can imagine how they look as large prints.

You certainly have that "Vincent Ward" eye for light. Solo was filmed in the dark volcanic area of the central North Island, an altogether different landscape from the South Island where I live.

Here the light in summer has often been compared to that of Spain. Sometimes harsh but often as soft as honey on a summers day.

Don't leave it too long before you vist. We are being over run by the well healed escaping from the ravages of a troubled Northern Hemisphere.

Regards John

What a great way to start my day. Your portfolio is a visual feast for eyes and mind. It only makes me want to come and visit even more. One of my all time favorite movies was filmed in New Zealand- SOLO. After seeing it, I was ready to pack my bags. Still have not made it there. For now, I will take repose in your gorgeous landscape images. The lighting in this one is amazing. I love the softness you've captured as well. Well done John!

Lovely image quality, John. I think the programmed exposure would have been brighter than this. Did you deliberately close down to get this somber mood, or handle it in post processing? Either way it's ideal for the "Moody Landscape" project.

Nice study of light John. This image is all about mood and the attractive scene is almost secondary. Very good.

I love the mood you captured. It seems so dark, but in a good way. The clouds and water contrast so well, and your composition is splendid. Thank you for sharing. Very well done.
