About Osprey with trout
Ospreys are the only raptor that dives into the water to catch fish. Characteristic markings such as black stripe through the eye along with the aerodynamic way they position fish head first when flying aid in identifying.

This one was initially on a dead tree branch with its fresh catch. When eventually spooked into flight, it circled around and was headed back to its perch, apparently to land...then it flew off. I was able to get a few nice shots...at least as good as can be expected with the Sony.

Grainy due to "film" speed setting and much cropping.

Great capture! Just proves that it's not the camera or a fancy lens!

Thanks for the good photo and the information on the Osprey. I enjoy looking at pictures on UseFilm because I see many wonderful images, meet intersting pictures, and in cases like this I learn something about the world around me.

I don't mind the grain in this shot, it adds to the sense of motion in my opinion. A wonderful image capture.

I spend a lot of time in my boat on the Potomac river and love watching the Osprey nest and raise their young. I have several photos posted here in Usefilm. Twenty yrs ago because of DDT they almost disappeared but have made a good recovery. I am able to observer about 10 nests each spring and see the progress of the young from hatching until they leave the nest in August. BTW, having been raised in Kansas with numerous relatives in Co. I love your state. Del.

Your welcome Don, and thank you!

Similar to a juvenile Bald Eagle...which has a brown belly. Look for a white belly and the black eye stripe on the Osprey.

Here's another shot, with the more common two claw carry, and unusual perhaps in the outstretched wings?
