Hi Ray, Thank you for dropping by and for your lovely note. You made me laugh with the bit about your MIL flying in on her bromstick. (haha)

Sorry to hear about the family probs. Sad way to go at Christmas. I do hope the new year goes better for you.

I don't mind if you call me Annie. I have been called every Annie in the history of the name Annie. I don't mind if you email me and we can swap some stories. I do hope you get your computer woes sorted out soon.

Take care and hang in there

Cheers - Ann :)

Hi my sweet Ann (I keep wanting to call you Annie) I came to the back? of your portfolio just for a change.....This is quite an adventure you are on in America and a long long way from home. You shall tell me all about one of these days.

The computer is allowing me internet facilities, access to my emails, usefilm comments but it won't let me post. It has been badly attacked in the registry and I have lost all my links. The guy who sees to all my IT problems will be coming a little later today and it will probably mean a complete rebuild. I am trying hard to get 30/40 recent shots off the computer as they are the ones that I hadn't backed-up at the time of the attack. I am not bothered by the loss of recent Word docs. I can replicate those soon enough. The shots involved include items to post on UF and I will be sad if I lose them.

Apart from all that nonsense....It is lovely to see you back again, did you know that you are absolutely my favourite Aussie travelling in the USA? We had a lovely Christmas Day which revolved around Heather and I, 2 stepchildren and Mother-in-law who flew in on her broomstick. Boxing Day was spent at my first wife's house where we traditionally meet up with my kids and the grandchildren. I was saddened to witness that my two daughters had fallen out badly and the indications are that this will be forever now. The atmosphere could have been cut with a knife. So very sad about this.

We got up to New Year's Eve daytime when Mother-in-law flew off to rejoin her coven and Heather and I brought 2006 in by ourselves as we do every year (party poopers).

Well that's about it from me just now; I have my fingers and toes crossed that posting can resume soon including those shots I am most nervous about. Thank-you so much for leaving me a little note upon your return, so very thoughtful. I made a note of your email address and if allowed I would love to 'speak' to you there.

Goodbye for now my sweet (and very beautiful) Ann(ie?) lots of big NEW YEAR hugs....Best wishes.Ray

Hi Yaqoob...I'm sorry I just found this question. So sorry it's taken me so long to reply to you. The shutter speed was 1/60 f5.6 ISO 400 and I used 18-55USM Canon lens at 55mm.

Thank you for your comment and again I'm so sorry for not seeing your question earlier Yaqoob.

Cheers - Ann :)

This is also very nice and unusual, Ann. The flashlight gives a scenery-like effect to the foreground while the backside sunset is just beautiful. Grat: Gyorgy

This is great, what a fun shot the way you used the flash to bring out the details, yet still maintained the gorgeous sunset behind. Alison

Stefan...I might try your suggestion as a variation if I find a nice sunset to shoot this one again.

Thank you and Cheers - Ann :)

Pretty corny title too :-) I think the fill flash is too heavy. Trying to diffuse it somehow might be an idea: a stofen diffuser or bounce it on a big piece of white board.

Ann, Great job on using fill flash for the corn and still being able to capture the sunset. Well done. I've tried this as well but not with fill flash thanks for the idea. Cute title as well. Marilyn

Thank you all again for your comments.

Allen, I am based on a 5 acre farm for now in Oregon (USA) and they have animals which roam free and a large vegetable garden. I was out in the yard one evening taking photos of this nice sunset when 4 geese chased me into the cornfield trying to bite me. (I guess that's what I should have taken photos of - haha) While I was in amongst the corn I noticed the sunset looked great with the corn in the foreground so I took a few photos from the edge of the cornfield...after those geese went away of course. :)

If you are after a more technical explanation of how I took the photo I was using a digital Rebel camera with a 55mm lens at 1/60sec and F5.6 - ISO 400 and just used the automatic flash on the camera and focessed on the corn. :)

Beyond all doubt, it is a wonderful shot.
Not only the color contrast, but also DOF, all elements including composition are perfect.
I like it very much.
What I wanna know is the detail of how to capture this kind view.

On the other hand, dear Ann, thank you very much for your critique on my shot.

Best Re.
Allen

Way to go!

Thanks Magnus....ya think Hollywood would buy into this corny shot? ;)

Mark that is the fluffy seed on top of the corn which makes the corn grow. It's not ice. It's just the fill flash that made it look that way.

Thank you all for taking the time to post such nice comments. Very encouraging and makes me want to make more time to go out and take more photos. :)

Thank you all for your kind words.

I thought it came out OK but when I read your encouraging comments it makes me want to go grab my camera and get out there and shoot some more.

Coming from the calibre of photographers I see in here I'm both flattered and honoured that so many took the time to view my photo as well as comment.

I have been travelling in a motorhome for some time so internet access has been intermittent at best but I will try to make a more concerted effort visit here more often.

Thanks again and cheers.
