About A small (3-4mm), un-identified fly resting on some clover flowers on my backyard lawn. Full sunlight with fill-in flash. Taken with my 105 micro Nikkor plus a 2.5 Panagor macro converter (old stuff - all manual). Brightness and contrast adjusted, slightly cropped.

Hi Peter - Thanks for the reply. I checked my references on Southern African insects and could not find that genus although it may be very similar than our local species. They are not exhaustive though and I will need the help of a entemologist on this one. Will let you know when I have a positive ID. Thanks a lot.

Hi again Joggie! I found this same fly yesterday in my garden. Their name is 'Coremacera Marginata'. The common English name is 'snale killing fly'.

A curious little fellow and no doubt rather fearsome to any bug that's less than 3mm in length, Joggie!!
A brilliant macro, as ever ~ you really come up with some crackers!!
Best regards, Chris
P.S. Thank you for your kind comment on my 'Mr Blue Sky' upload and for your contribution to the discussion.

Any idea what kind of fly this is ? I have never encountered this species.Great shot,i like the downward angle of this fly and the perfect clean background. This could not have been easy to get the focus spot on with such a small insect.
