Excellent capture of this duck Marcus. Being a racing pigeon breeder (inactive at this stage though), I am very intersted in your photos of birds in flight and have learned a lot from them. Here one can see the immense pressure on the primary flights, providing lift and forward thrust for the body. Great work!

Hi Marcus,
I do like the foilage in the picture, I just think that if a little bit of it was strategically placed around the duck with the duck up against the blue sky, you might have the best of both worlds. On the other hand, I seem to be the only one to mention it, so I guess it must be pleasing enough as is :) I do agree that the plain blue sky can be a little bare sometimes, but those details on the birds are so good it doesn't matter too much.

Thanks Andre, Talk to Judi about the follage as she is the one who suggested I use more of the shots like this as the blue sky was a bit boring, I guess you cant please everyone LOL...
Take care..

Well to be honest taking birds in flight in broad daylight most will agree that IS is not needed and does slow down you intital target lock as IS takes close to 1 sec to become functional. whoever I do use it 100 percent of the time as I have found my results to be better. so i guess is a matter of what works for you.

Hi Marcus,
The detail and clarity of the bird is amazing as usual. His pose is perfect. The background position of the trees is a little distracting. It would have been nice if the duck was up against the blue sky and the trees sort of roughly framed the bird. I'm betting you would have liked it that way too.

Something about the ducks wings always seems to look good. The angle at which they are positioned here is esp. effective, and the way he seems to be looking back at the camera.

Cheers,
Chris
