You need to take the opportunity with these chaps when they come along, Marcus, and you took it well!
A fine close up with good detail.
Best regards, Chris

Nicely captured with nice dof and the compo are very good. I?m impressed of the fact that you COULD capture it, because they are so fast to move them self!

Great macro, Marcus! Excellent details, particularly on the wings. Though I think it could be more interesting if you could also capture its two big eyes, like what you did with the Fly. Bravo..!
Cheers,
Titin

Marcus....you have more talent then you allow yourself to believe. Inside of you is a whole new world just waiting to be shown. You are slowly finding that out. In the meantime I will be here by your side helping you any way you want.

This macro has awesome details...enough to put the best to shame.

BTW...its obvious there is no flash used here due to the consistent lighting and I also feel it isn't too soft OR sharp. It is spot on.

Perfect pose--beautifully captured. I'm in an ongoing debate as to whether to purchase extension tubes or close-up lenses. My prime macro lens is 50mm. I do envy shots like this. ;-)

Cheers,

hi Marcus, thank you for the macro. I like the color, great harmony. DOF is okay, but image is slightly soft, perhaps the dragonfly moved a little when you are taking the shot? Or was it your camera shake? But nevertheless, it is still a nice macro shot of a dragonfly. Not easy to take them.

Nice live shot Marcus.
Slight camera shake, yes even at 1/250th! :)
Macro with full extensions and tubes is like shooting with a 400mm or a big telephoto.
Probably could have opened up a stop to get 1/500th, as you wouldnt have lost much DOF at that mag.
Cheers

Thanks Francesco, yes on this one he was not moving so I actually had time to go from the largest to the smallest kenko tube as they come in a set of 3, and I got the best results with the 10mm....

Joe Johnson   {K:8529} 8/15/2005
That's a pretty solid photo, I think. Since you are some distance from the creature, have you considered a diffuser? It can tend to really brighten the scene and features without introducing white spots, or specular highlights. But you need such distance to use it, as it is bulky.
