looks like a remote abandoned place. you know I wish canon or nikon would make DSLRs with built in ND Grad filters where you can choose how many stops and adjust vertically

Makes me proud to be scotish. Wonderful shot.
I walked up there under the ski lift in the summer and do not remember it been so Beatiful. I guess most people would shot in the opposite direction ...if i am not mistaken its the flatest piece of Scotland.
Great stuff.

Yay! There's an award. Congrats for that. I'm so glad your work is getting the recognition it deserves. Chris, I hope there are sunsets like this in heaven however I did hear Nikons were not allowed over there. Only Canons. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news. :-) By the way, "Mountain Sunset" was really good too. I actually fell for that one as being real!

Wow, Chris, I seem to have pushed a button there. As you say, your "about" was perfectly clear--so I wasn't in the least accusing you of trying to pass off a synthetic creation as a genuine part of God's world, which is the thing that really bugs me when I encounter it (you can see there's a religious dimension there that we haven't explored before). But I hadn't seen the playful connotations (for you) of creating an image that simply couldn't be real. I thought you were always trying to emulate reality or improve on it. I assumed that that meant you were concermed primarily with verrisimilitude. Now I will know to look for tongue-in-cheek "abouts" and avoid commenting on the associated pictures... But as you very well know, I love and admire your work and have a disproportionate number of your photos among my favourites!

Well now Dr. Spracklen.... excellent suturing and the patient looks very much 'alive'... ;-D!!! If the view up there is this spectacular, I hope you put in a good word for me.... !!! As I'm one of the UF members that uploads a 'high number of mind-numbingly boring images that we see at the other extreme of the reality spectrum', I can't even begin to try and understand (if I ever... LOL) how you did this.... great job!!!!!

Mmmm?
I wonder?
?if you don't take me a little too seriously at times, Roger! )
I take my work VERY seriously and I take my photography VERY seriously (on the whole!), but just very occasionally I need to do something a little wild! To break right out of the usual Spracklen mould!
I'm not sure how much clearer I could have made it with this one that it was pure fantasy! I put it in the UF 'photoart' category and my own 'photoart' portfolio and the 'about' was full of statements that would surely have made the average reader realise that this was a 'tongue-in-cheek, purely-for-fun' image. Surely UF has room for that as well as for the high number of mind-numbingly boring images that we see at the other extreme of the reality spectrum?
I realise that not everyone reads the 'about' section. Fair enough! But I still see no reason why other UFers shouldn't enjoy the image for what they see in it, just as I can occaionally enjoy something that's a little different, or even 'off the wall'.
I accept all your thoughtful criticisms absolutely. "Hands up. I'm guilty m'lud!" And, as always, I appreciate your honesty and the fact that you prefer to see absolute reality in UF uploads ~ or at least that which is naturally possible! But occasionally my imagination runs riot and I run with it. The resulting image isn't always even 'theoretically possible', but I might still end up liking it ~ and that's how it was with this one. I accept that, in your eyes, it doesn't come off. No problem! But I'm also happy that in the eyes of 30+ others, it does!
Please don't stop commenting on the whacky stuff occasionally ~ I still value your helpful and constructive criticism!
Best regards, as always, Chris

Not my favourite image of yours, Chris, because of the unnatural lighting. The golden sunset, with light streaming along almost parallel to the ground, might have rimmed the palings of the fence with light, but hardly in the way we see here. Instead, we appear to see the palings more or less frontally illuminated. This leapt off the page at me, and made me think I shouldn't comment, but since you ASKED I give you my honest opinion. The reflection from the path also seems to be quite wrong. And the foreground areas that should surely have been in shadow are curiously illuminated too. Sorry, but I think it just doesn't come off.
