About I was heading East today out of the mountains to visit my daughter who lives in Red Deer, Alberta. As I was cruzing along I was just behind a huge Cumulous Nimbus (thunderhead). The lighting was so dramatic that it took me hours to cover the distance that would normally take only 2 hours....needless to say I was stopping every couple of miles recording all the action. This shot is just a precursor to what I will be posting in the next few days.

Hi Carsten,
the sun was setting behind me and the light managed to peek through clouds in places and not in others. As to the clouds in the distance they were high enough to catch light from the sun from above the existing cloud mass. It was a very complex situation and if i waited even a few minutes it would change completely. I was lucky to get what i did.

Gorgeous skyscape ! A puzzling lighting situation, sun is @the left behind, and there is the bright sky area @ the right side, illuminated from above. Compositionwise, nothing to improve, very good leading lines. Very dramatic atmosphere, superb shot.

What a beautiful sight Tim, the sun lit bales carries ones eye through the photo and the perspective leads us to the amazing cloud formations in the distance. I can see why this trip took you many extra hours, it's nice to be able to stop when you want. Alison

This too is very dramatic, I think despite the difficulty in the travelling conditions, you must be getting amazing stuff for your paintings

That's something else Tim To see the light coming through the clouds when the source is behind you is so unusual. And the lighting on the straw bales is magic.
