City - sossusvlei State - SOUTH PART Country - Namibia
About
The water that feeds Sossusvlei in southern Namibia flows from the mountain ranges in the east until it drops down the Sesriem canyon - literally appearing suddenly in the desert landscape as if dug there by hand. The canyon got its name from early trekkers who had to use 6 rawhide strips from the hide of an ox to lower a bucket to the bottom of the canyon.
