About Sunset over Maputo Harbor, Matola Harbor far background. Local fishermen still use dhows with little success. The Stormwater and sewer system in Maputo was designed for about 200 000 inhabitants, currently straining at almost two million.. There are no purification or recycling plants in the city and following a turn through the settling ponds, raw sewer flows directly into the harbor mouth. There are very little marine life left compared to 50 years ago and no solution is in sight.
