About I saw this at yesterday's Farmer's Market. I think it is a Vanda Orchid. What a fun place to bring a camera! Any advice on how to eliminate that headless torso?

Dear Giuseppe,

You are so right. If I had gotten all of the upper leaf, what would I do with the crossed arms? I could blur them. Any ideas? He owned the orchid, not I, btw. As he owned the arms!

Hi Norma. Beautiful flower, pity the amputation of the upper leaf. Flower need air all around to survive!
Cheers.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your help. I still consider myself very much a "newbie" and your explanation will help me. I appreciate your taking the time to answer my question.

I really enjoyed myself browsing through your portfolio. I'll be back often for inspiration.

Thanks, Norma

Hi Norma,

Thanks for the nice comments on my sunset and macro. I run into this problem all the time. I don't compose carefully and end up with something in the shot I don't want like these arms or something growing out of someone's head that's in the background. I don't know what your experience level is currently but the Best solution, recompose the shot. If it's a random capture and you won't get back there again then Photoshop has tools that will allow you to clone other parts of the picture and paint it into the place where the arms are. One other technique is to try to use a larger aperture like f:/2.4 - f:/6 that will make the depth of field (the area in focus) shallower. This would have made the torso a flesh colored blur (even more out of focus than it is now). Hope this helps.

cheers, -mm

I think it is a vanda orchid. I google Zanda and found Vanda and it looks exactly like it.
