About The original picture is attached below.
I coudn't get any closer to that bird, plus the sky was harsh and featureless.
Therefore, i thought i could have fun painting it.

what do you think? is it worth the 10 minutes or was it a waste of time?

F***!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry guys!.... It's not usual from me... But I'm impressed, really impressed...
Ned... You almost took the f* word of my mouse... To be honest this is the kind of photo I would send to "recicle bin" in a second (the original, of course...!)
I still don't believe it....

Hi Angelo,
Actually i didn't aim to improve the original image, i just made use of the original to come up with a completely new PAINTING .. that's why i called it LET'S ADD SOME COLOURS ...

I'm not an artist, however, i've always liked colouring and i thought this shot had the potential.

Thank you very much for the tips on how to improve the original shot .. i'll probably try it, or use it for other images.

regards,
ned

Well, Ned, this is a very compelling image that you have ended up with. If you hadn't shown the original, I would have thought it was just a painting, because that's kind of what it looks like: a canvas painting. And I don't mean that as a way of diminishing its worth at all.

It all depends to whether you were looking to have such an effect, or whether you are looking for more natural-looking shots.

BTW, I believe you could get more detail our of the original with some selective blended layers: one for the tree and bird (shadow) and one for the sky (highlights) using different blending modes, and perhaps some slight colour overlays.

Nice shot, Ned, and great PS work. Looks more like a good painting than a photo... Well done.

Hi sweetiest Linda :)
How are you? Where have you been?
I missed you, too.

Thanks a lot for you kind comment .. I'm blushing :)

Ok .. what details you want to know?
First of all, i cropped it the way you see it now then tweaked the LEVELS to brighten the empty sky. Then, I did a partial selection to the white sky and filled it with sky blue. Using the DELETE brush, with very low opacity, I made the graduation in the sky colour.

The grass was a result of painting with various sizes and types of brushes. Colours of grass is a mixture of: dark greean, light green, yellow, and brown.

Finally, I inversed the selection to enhance the bird and tree trunk. I Tweaked the CURVES, COLOUR BALANCE, LEVELS and added little water colours effect using the built in filters in photoshop.
That's all.

Nice to have you back with us, Linda.
best wishes,
ned

It was worth it of course! You really did great work on the background. did you paint it yourself or took it from another image?
