The colony is in a harbour at the extreme western end of Lake Ontario (Canada).

Where were you exactly? I mean in the world?

Thanks Alison.

I was shooting a nesting colony for a biologist at the time. The colony was on a small island, about 20 metres from the lookout from where I was shooting. The terns aggressively defend the area.

Incredible. I presume you were near its nest? Mind blowing shot you deserve an award for it.

A W E S O M E S H O T ! ! ! Now next time, get it with the wings in the same position instead of all askew. :)

Thanks Kelly. No... just an intimidating flyby. They will make contact on occasion.

I got a shot similar to this when I was shooting some hawks. I got a shot of one of them when he dove at me, talons extended and everything. I did duck a little, and just barely managed to catch him in the corner of the frame.

I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. I thought it was a gull with sunglasses on from the thumbnail. Good job, a little stupid not to duck but it's a great shot.

what an amazing unusual shot. I took thousands of photos of birds in flight, but never got anything like that :)

A better caption: Ha-YAAAAHHH! ;-) Great capture. The compression, basic colors and shallow depth of field almost make it look like a cartoon-ish painting.
