About This was taken at the Quaggaskop geological formations, in the Knersvlakte (Valley of gnashing of teeth)in the Namaqualand, South Africa. It is a semi-desert receiving less than 100mm of rain per annum. I took this photo 2 days after a rainfall event which wetted the red silt in the pothole section of this river tributary. The red colour of the wet silt is derived from the eroding red siltstone rocks. The colours you see is NOT ALTERED. Contrast brightness and sharpness slightly adjusted in PS.

What beautiful colours and shapes, Joggie. Mother Nature would have to be the best artist of all and you have captured her magic to well. I love all your Quaggaskop pics. Rocks are so beautiful. Cheers, Ann.

Hi Peter - Thanks for the comment. Yes I use a Polarizer which works well except under overcast conditions and early morning/late afternoon. It eliminates the reflections from shiny leaves, water molecules in the sky and practicaly any reflective surface and brings out the true colour of a subject. One does loose some light though 1 to 1.5 fstops. Other than that I hardly ever use a filter

These rocks look like a fleshwound. Exellent lightcontrole.I have seen your other landscape and rockphoto's.......all very well composed! When you take photo's of landscapes do you use any filters( warming,ND,polarizers) in front of your lens ? I know a lot of photographers use them, and i could use some advice. Thanks for sharing Joggie!
