Wonderful, Rachel. I love the side lighting and your 'about' is very appropriate.
I went thru your portfolio and I must confess you are very very good. And you are so young! Keep on taking pictures and I hope one day you will be a pro!
And thanks for your nice words on my recent upload, Rachel.

Rachel your portaits are very impressive. You have a terrific eye for expression and should be so pleased to have found it at your age. I love the color and soft focus of this photograph, this is beautiful work, keep it up....

This is our first, but hopefully not last meeting on the pages of "Usefilm", young Ms.Volkel. I read your bio and went through your entire portfolio more than once. The latter was easy, because there were not too many photos and yet difficult because so many of them were excellent and hard to sellect one to commmment on. I finally settled on this one not merely because it was the last photo you posted and hence the first one I saw, but also because it was very good, showing a great potential for the ability to use light to paint with and photography, not only in my mind, is the art of painting with light. There are two points in your bio I would like to relate to. You ask for advice and you write that you want to study to become a professional photographer. My advice is: don't study, because I think it will spoil you spontaneity. My wife, whose name happens to be Rachel, like yours,(she also liked your photo very much when I showed it to her) started to write short stories about her childhood and asked me if she should study professional writing. After reading some of her stories, I advised her not to, for the same reason I advise you not to study professional photography and the result was that her collection of 30 short stories was adopted by "Yad Vashem", our National Museum and Study Center for the Holocaust and will be reading material at our schools. I translated four of her stories, originally written in Hebrew and if you write to me at rafael1930@bezeqint.net and put Usefilm and Rachel's stories in the subject line, I'll gladly send them to you. I never studied photography, except for a few photoshop lessons and you may judge by my photos if I was right in doing so. You are, of course, invited to read my bio and pay further visits to my portfolio. In the meantime, I thank you for your kind comment on my "Memories from Paris 5" Best regards, Dr. Rafael (Rafi for future communications) Springmann

Rachel, like the image and the words. The words are happy, the image is dark. I think a lighter treatment would have given your message better.
