This image was shot on Tri X with a Kowa Six and 55mm lens with no filter. I metered the trees on the left and the snow on the cliff behind them. Because there was an 8 stop range I developed the film at N-3 praying all the time that I would be able to pull the detail out of the shadows and still have printable highlights. A red or orange filter would have boosted the contrast even more so that is why I chose not to use a filter. a minuet after this was taken, the sun broke over Half Dome and the white snow was gone on the cliff behind the left hand trees. I had on shorts, t-shirt, and walking sandles for this shot. When I saw it and knew how much time I had before it was gone, I felt like AA when he shot Moonrise. So no this is not IR and the only tricks used were normal photographic skills and darkroom work.

Great image james. I like the crystal reflection from the water. I don't mean to be an ass, but I'm noticing a few hot spots on the left. I find that the whites are overpowering the entire image and instead of allowing my eye to flow through it naturally, I'm getting pulled to the bright hills on the top left and the bright snow on the lower left. What I'm truely curious of, is during a situation like this, would local burning be preferred or would reduced development be preferred?

James, or should I say Ansel? Nice photo! Crisp, effective, interesting, and balanced. I'm sure it's one that you can display with pride.

I really like your composition with this shot. The reflection in the water is great. It reminds me of Ansel's work.

James, this is my favoite in your portfolio so far. Well executed. Could you offer a little more information, was this shot on IR film? I would expect the sky to be a little darker if it was. What color filter did you use, or was the effect accomplished in PS? Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful scene, Ansel Adams' style huh? :) ...You've captured the reflection on the water very well... why the IR film/effect wasn't mentioned on the technical data?

What a beautifully balanced composition; like pieces of an interlocking puzzle. My eye keeps moving and returning without getting tired. Really well done...

Great Image ! I remember the work A.A. The other commentators don't know this style ? I don't like to see colors in this image.
