About Subject background: A cinema paradiso in NYC, captured with my 14mm lens. judging from today perhaps, this cinema doesn't exist anymore. But I honestly hope that this is NOT the case, as I love the small cinemas ;-)

PS concept: Channel mixer for the bold outcome (which is part of the concept BTW), added some noise, vignetting, toning.

Honest feedback highly appreciated

T,
Cool. I like the energy of the one human walking in the frame as well as the bright light of the marquee.
Cheers,
E

You created a desolate feeling, with grainy B&W, high contrast, wide angle perspective, lighting of a cold and overcast sky, and this lone man ? woman ?. Probably an allegory for the financial situation of those small cinemas, right ? Nice work !
Regards; Carsten

Great wide angle shot! Although it looks simple at first there is definitely the ususal 'wierd' undertones here! The guy walking caught in mid step is great too.
Nice work,
Omar

hi, great wide angle shot with good perspective and tone,Thilo...Love the movie/title and you would love some of the small, unique "indie" theaters we have in Seattle/Tacoma..(indie meaning independent films that are not always the hollywood formulaic blockbusters)..great image!..regards,gayle

Hello, Thilo, you?re indeed a great artist...
Although I'm not sure about the vignete, I like the noise addition and the tonalization using channel mixer... and the perspective due to 14mm lenses really improved the scene.
Thank you fr sharing.

Nice moody photo Thilo,

It's a shame there wasn't a Hitchcock festival on the marquee. Those older titles would have gone well with the composition. Reminds me of the days when I used to frequent these fleapit theatres for bargain price double features. The good old days.
So, I guess you captured the nostalgia feeling!

Like Tony (and you), I love the titled movie--and small theaters, for example. This is a stunning image, but it makes me sad to see the titles on the marquee. Makes the "paradiso" rather ironic. The effect is very engaging and emotionally provocative.

Best regards,
--George

Hi Tony,

thanks a lot for the feedback. darkness is part of the concept ;-)

you're right with the left side. but as you probably know, street scenes are something you cannot control and where 1/10 of a second makes the difference between getting a shot and not getting a shot.

appreciate your feedback a lot.

hi kev,

you named it. and things that once were good may return later as retro stuff, when the guys who were responsible for the destruction think it's cool now. hate that.

Hi Antonio,

thanks for the indepth comment. Yes, I know that film very well - it's in my DVD collection ;-)

I chose the title because it really says what I feel with small cinemas =)

Sharp but moody,I connect with the feeling and, like Antonio, can't help remembering the film-one of my favourites!Maybe a smidgen too dark in the foreground and perhaps you could have given the head of the street light a bit more space to the left. All in all I like it it really communicates.Regards,Tony.

...the figue walking past gives and impression of a little used and regarded cinema - off the the megaplex (the McDonalds of the movie theaters) - We see this all accross this country and around the world - they call it progress but at what expense and do we really want the kind of progress that makes all the old, nice, fun places into a new parking lot - I think the photo says no!

Beautiful composition with the figure in the right spot with the back to the viewer - K

I suppose you used the title by the movie Cinema Paradiso of some years ago to give the significant of your concept in the About; I understood well of course what this beatiful photo mean but I have to say that Paradiso was simply a name of that ancient cinema and does not describe (in italian) those small cinemas. :-) but this could be a good proposal for my language I have to tell this to the rest of Italians :))))
