hi Bryan,
getting email in again now.
The effect will be better with a long lens on this.
Cheers
Guido.

Thanks, Andree. That is a very good observation. The reason for this uphill effect is because it was just after a jump where the land was slightly uphill again. It however probably makes the photo less dramatic than would otherwise be the case.

Thanks Guido. I love to experement to get more artistic effects etc. I know such a slow shutter isnt to everyones taste, as is a shallow DOF, so thanks for honestly sharing your thaughts. I took quite a few at 1/60, 1/100, 1/125, 1/1000. I found that 1/100 was quite a conservative and safe shutter speed, and I could still get some motion blur as seen in the photo attached (as well as very few failures). 1/1000 second freezes everything dead still. I however loved the huge motion effect of a really slow shutter (1/15), as well as the artistic value it adds (very few came out well, though). The one disadvantage is that you battle to recognize who is riding (and battle to get successful shots) - but that wasn't my goal in this case.

Regards
Bryan

Excellent capture, Bryan. The effect adds tremendous dynamics to the shot and shows pefectly the speed.

hi,Bryan,
I dont get any emails from usefilm comments,
But anyhow ,I have seen your comment.
Using a shorter shutter speed,125 or 250 will give you blur in the background as you pan with the subject. The bikers face will be in focus though.

He is going very fast...But the photograph gives the illusion that he is going up hill...Regards, Andree

Stunning action shot Bryan. The motion is well captured looks like he was flying. Love the sharp colors. Nice one.

Thanks, Guido. I intended to get motion blur and therefor used a very slow shutter speed and followed the rider as I took the photo. I find the blur adds nice motion to the photo. For some of the other shots, I used a very fast shutter speed, and the riders are just not moving...

I'm surprised he didn't ride out of the shot at this shutter speed

Well done Bryan
