Shadow was named for the same reasons. He is never out of view of his beloved person. He is a Bichon Frise and smiles all the time. Thank You for your reply, Regards, Ceceilia

That's funny the dog's name is Shadow. When I was a kid, we had a dog named Shadow. It wasn't because he was a black dog (although he was); it was because he would follow my mother around like he was bound to her inextricably (sp)?

Anyway, I commented without knowing the history. Thought that even if it wasn't a commercial shot, there's always opportunity to share knowledge/thoughts.

Sue, Thank You for your suggestions. Shadow is my neighbors dog, and they are both 85 yrs young. He has allergies and not even the groomer can turn him white. This photo was taken for her and framed so she could have a small momento of her beloved friend. She rescued Shadow from a breed rescue and in turn he has rescued her. The only pet photos I have done are my own. Regards, Ceceilia

Ceceilia, I don't know if this is a personal photo or a "formal sitting", but may I make two suggestions? If this is a formal shot for the owner, you might ask that he/she take a wet cloth and wipe a bit of the "poodle goo" (that they all get) from under the eyes and the chin. The other suggestion would be to perhaps enhance the catchlight in the eyes. It adds a bit of life to the subject when this is more prominent.

That being said, on to the compliments! Firstly, congrats on avoiding the dreaded green-eyed dog! I've not done any formal pet shots (except for my own spoiled felines) but no matter the pet, it can be really difficult to avoid reflecting back those receptors. Secondly, I LOVE the backdrop. I suspect it is a beanbag chair, but it looks like this dog is in the absolute lap of luxury with that velveteen texture. Great job!

Keep shooting!
