I prefer the b&w version Niclas did to your image, with color removed what's left is the real essence of meaning & it's integral parts. I share your opinion regarding the dock coming from the right which is distracting, as for the type of camera utilized, it really dosen't matter Elizabeth because in the end it's the image that speaks not the camera. Thanks so much btw for your recent kind comments, cheers.

crappy camera or not, the photo is excellent! It doesn't always have to be a perfect image to create a wonderful photograph! The symmetry and mood are first rate Elizabeth! You have the eye!!

Hmmm...Elizabeth...if this is an example of your work than I am really keen to see more. I actually like the dock being there as it directs the viewers eye to the obvious part of the image....the hands. Everything else spreads out from there. So very well done.

Some saturation added and contrast increased.

I like your composition, the way the arms form certain shapes when joined together like this. I just think that the shot is lacking a bit of punch, mostly due to the dull and somewhat colorless sky and water in the background. If those two elements had more interesting tones this would be a great shot. What you could also try doing is changing the whole shot into black&white and adding some contrast. I think that would have quite a strong effect also. These are once again only my opinions :) Good work!
Kind regards,
Niclas
