Great shot, but the noise is pretty bad in this one and the highlights are starting to blow out.

Well -- I checked your earlier post of this image and I will have to say that even though that one looks like a picture postcard; THIS one is the one that has the magic for me.

Evelyn, Thanks! After my earlier post I was leary to post this one but I really did like and am glad that I did. Pretty funny about me and my friend E Shea with the Hawaii Wave shot isn't it? LOL Like you said...the whole story of the scene. :)

Oh Wow! NOW you are making me "homesick"!! But I never got the drama you were able to with this photo! The sunshine hitting the rock really adds to the scene. Absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!!

Hi Kevin, Thanks for the critique, really! It was tough. This picture represents to me the Yin and Yang of photography concerning light and shadow; at least that is what I was hoping for. There was literally no way to avoid the negative space in the middle; I wouldn't have been able to get all of those elements in the picture any other way. Upper Yosemite falls is in deep shadow until the sun comes up a pretty good clip. I go back there annually and so I can't wait to see what I can do with it next time. BTW, your portfolio has some amazing shots! Great work!

As much as I hate to be critical of such a stunning image, I have to quesion Geoff's comment. Do you really think this is perfect composition?
I mean, I understand how it may have been difficult to work all of the elements into the frame based on what perspectives were available, but a huge chunk of the middle of the frame is essentially negative space. To me, everything feels pushed to the outer borders of the frame. (my two cents)
Can't knock the subject or technical elements, though, this is good stuff, but I had to question the "perfect" comment regarding composition. Cheers!

I guess it's a pretty spectacular scene anyway (I haven't been there yet) but you certainly created an excellent picture from it. Everything is perfect.
Congratulations, Jonathan
