I think that you could have had a better effect not cropping the tips of the leafs (or whatever they are called). The contrast of green and red is very appealing; your DOF is a good try, you got the idea, the problem is that it's so shallow that the only parts in focus are the stem and leaves at the bottom of the page and it appears that the blurred flower is an unintended accident. In your camera manual you will find tips on focusing and getting rid of the datestamp.
