About The colours in this sunset reminded me of a lava flow. I do not have PS, nor do I know yet how to utilize much editing. All I did was take out a hydro line and brighten it a bit. Any suggestions as to how to better present this image are most welcome. I am hoping to learn.

Hi Mary,

Your images are outstanding. I'm especially glad because I just ordered a new DX7440 yesterday.

Please tell me if you tweak your pics with an editing program such as Photoshop or iPhoto? Or are they right out of the camera?

Please take a look at my new website:
http://www.samhavens.com

I'll begin posting images from the DX7440 soon.

Cheers,

Sam

Great moody effect, just slightly killed with jpeg compression. Aside, very promising photo. You definitely must take some program for postprocessing of the photos. Don't forget, this type of programs are dark chamber of digital photography. There is a lot of free demo versions on the web to try them.

Mary so glad you posted the BW version as I had missed this one. It is gorgeous the colours are lovely in great flowing lines
I generally much prefer colour photography, but I very much like the BW version, it is quite stunning

Stunning image. The only improvement is the grain. I noticed you had the ISO on 80 so there shouldn't have been that much noise in the image. Try using Neat Image. It is a free programme that does the work for you.

Thankyou also for your comment on my work.

I agree with the others with the atmospheric and color quality, grain is certainly no issue here. Funny that nobody mentioned it but I find the jpeg artifacts a bit disturbing (you shot probably jpeg, worked on it, then saved a jpeg, then resized and compressed to jpeg again, right ?). Anyway, in every case you should upload a jpeg with less compression, a 800 sized photo with not so much structures as here could be compressed to 90% quality, almost invisible the jpeg artifacts then. Uff ! tech stuff... Anyway, it`s a great shot, for sure

Richard, thank you so much for your comment. I have really just been at this since I got my digital camera for Christmas and have turned into a photo fiend. So, I appreciate any suggestions as to how my pictures might be improved. I never thought of B&W. I will try that. Take care, Mary

Richard Dakin   {K:12915} 3/22/2005
I love it as it is. It is the type of image I love to take, and look at as well. I even like the noise, it reminds me of the grain that is evident in some films. You might try converting this image to B+W. You would be surprised how the colours convert to shades of gray in an image such as this. The only other possible change I would make is to crop the pic such that the large tree is a little less centered. You would probably have to go back to the original to do this. Anyway .... very nice work.

Shane, it looked much more crisp on my computer screen, but sure gained some graininess on upload. Maybe the cropping was a little more than my 4mp can handle well. I almost removed it, but am glad I left in posted. Mary

Dramatic colours! It's a bit grainy, I'd reduce the size to avoid it. Well done.

Beautiful and peaceful image Mary. Mother Nature can really put on a show...which you captured to a tee! Like the silhouette of the trees against the "lava" sky! It' nice to meet you and thank you for the look-see on my latest. Regards--Bill Voizin P.S. You don't need any programs to enhance your photos--you just take good pictures!

Beautiful capture of a sunset, I like the mix of textures and lines. Have you tried the GIMP, it has most of the functionality of Photoshop and it's free. Send me an e-mail to the address in my profile for instructions on how to get it. This system is not URL friendly, otherwise I'll put it here.

Cheers!

Francisco

I got photoshop elements 3.0. just because it's so famous, and play with it, and take peoples hints and advice and to try to see how it works for you. There's probably half a dozen other programs too that people can direct you too. this looks beautiful.

Robert, you are right, it does look better in medium size. It looked more crisp on my computer screen in my Kodak EasyShare program than it does when I posted it here. Thank you for your encouraging comments. Mary
