Bachground of this building - probably oldest construction from bricks in Moscow. It was build in 1504 and the temple was added later, in 1691-1694. Three-storied church in style of the Moscow baroque has been built. In its bottom circle the throne in the name of the Sign of the Mother of God, in the second - a throne in the name of Over Archangel Michael, in the third - a throne in the name of Over metropolitan Alex settles down. Usually this three-tier church name simply Michael Arhangel's church. It was built by tsarina Eudoxia Lopukhin, first wife Peter I, and an occasion for construction became a birth of the successor of a throne of tsarevitch Alexey. Joyful mother, burning with the desire to thanks the Virgin, has hastened to offer means for a construction of church in memory of this event - not without reason one of its thrones is consecrated in the name of St. Alex. Already practically completed by 1694, this temple after Eudoxia's reference in a monastery of 45 years (!) stay not consecrated, "without singing", and has been consecrated only in 1739. In Michael Arhangela's churches there is a family tomb of sort Lopukhin family. Here were buried the father of tsarina Eudoxia, boyar Feodor Abramovich Lopukhin, and also general Vasily Abramovich Lopukhin, the hero of fight at a Gross-Egersdorf (1757) fatally wounded in this battle.
