hi pietro - thanks for your comments. I've been so busy the last week or so i haven't been on usefilm at all so i apologize for not replying sooner. This photo was actually shot over 6 years ago when i was a student in photography school. The original is a much larger piece but the photo i had of it was 11"x17" & my scanner only scans 8"x10" so that was the first crop - & then i was working on putting together some square images for my website & tried cropping this one down even more. Too bad i didn't think of your suggestion of cropping out her eye & some off the bottom. I'll have to give that a try myself to see how it looks but i can already sense that it will be an impovement! Thanks, again. all the best - jennifer

Hi Jen! I noticed you're working with portraits. I like them but I'm sure you'll do better! This one show an interesting use of light but it lacks sharpness. And, to me, the hair in the bottom-left corner are a bit disturbing: what about cropping out her right eye and at the bottom? nice work, keep on!

hi siddharth - i have to agree with you here. I wanted to present keiko as she is - very beautiful & with a mole under her nose!

thanks, david. I know the mole thing is a bit of an issue because it does draw your attention. But what i decided was that that's her & i didn't want to change that just because it's not what we're used to seeing - she's so beautiful, like so many models, & i think that those little 'imperfections' somehow help to make her seem more real, or something. But i really appreciate hearing others' points of view & critiques, so thanks for sharing yours with me! :O)

yeah well..if it were an advertising shot i would clone out the mole..otherwise doing that would mean changing who the person in the picture is.. ??

jennifer... very beautiful. i love the crop and the contrast. real nice. if it were me (big if) i'd ps out the small mole under her nose. it pulls attention away from the porcelain skin. again, that's just me... david
