Doel is a small village near Antwerp, Belgium. Due to the future expansion of the Antwerp harbour, it is doomed to disappear: there are plans to cover Doel with 20 feet of mud. Most of the original inhabitants have abandoned the village, but a few tenacious people still refuse to leave. The windmill is in the village, the tower behind it is a cooling tower of the nuclear power plant at the opposite side of the river.
Excellent capture Hermen!! This photo cause commotion, beautiful for our eyes, however very very sad to see as the pollution comes dominating our beautiful scenes. Thaks for sharing!! Roberto.
Feel so sad reding how mindless development is causing large scale displacement of people. In India also we have a massive Narmada dam project which has impacted people so adversely, literally yanked them out of their roots, submerged villages, towns, forests ! regards, anurag
