Great shot. I love the contradiction between the way the background contrasts colourwise with the foreground, yet echoes its shapes. Also think cropping the top would be wrong; the depth of the background tells you that the foreground drop is deep too.

Hi Michael, I find two things strikingly strong in this image:
1. The POV, pointing downwards, whilst maintaining the depth and dimensions, without referencing at a horizon 2. the contrast between the warm light in the foreground and the cool blue in the background.
The combination is excellent; In the cases I tried such a setting, I always have a feeling most of the angles and dimensions are getting lost, obvously stronger when I use a zoom, but this doesn't look as if you used a focal lenght of 18 mm...;)
Very well balanced composition. An unusual view, but a very effective one. Very intriguing, and perfectly captured.
Cheers,
Hugo

Excellent shot. I wonder, however, if it might be improved with some of the top cropped off. This would emphasize the slot more than the far wallof the canyon. Personal opinion however, you may not agree with this.

Good control of the exposure Michael. I like the range of colours and textures. The backlit trees? add nice depth to the image. Regards John
