About It was quite cloudy locally, but the moon did show through enough to grab a couple of images... Unfortunately, the moon had already passed through totality when I was able to shoot this.

Thanks Peter... I've had a lot of practice over the years with the 500mm and it's my favourite setup for 'widefield' astronomical images... ;-)

Excellent capture. Despite the clouds and haze, you managed to pick up quite a bit of surface detail with that 500mm. Great job!

Thanks Ryan. I see that you managed to capture some blue in the penumbral shadow (very nice). I seen that in last winter's eclipse but my Nikon 995 being relatively insensitive to blue, completely missed it. My buddy shooting next to me with his Canon 10D picked it up very nicely.

Thanks Paul. Yes, the 500 mm refractor is a small telescope of similar design to a normal 500 mm telephoto lens. I shoot anywhere from 500 mm for these widefield views, to 10,000 mm for hi resolution work on the moon and planets.

Thanks again Dave. Shooting from home was my second option (I keep my main scope at a friend's observatory) and had all but given up waiting for the sky to clear. As luck would have it, the observatory had clear skies for the entire event. My partner shot the event from start to finish, so I'll probably be helping him process for the next couple of weeks.

Thanks Deb. Luckily the event was visible throughout a large portion of the world, so there's bound to be tons of images.

Thanks Genevieve. I'm in Stoney Creek and the sky never cleared here til midnight. Burlington (directly across the lake) never had a glimpse at all. Some nearby towns were completely clear for the whole event... c'est la vie.

Lol... I don't think I've ever heard that description of an impact crater before... (in this case the 'belly button' is the crater 'Tycho').

Thanks for the compliment, Megan. :-)

Hey Bob! Nice capture! I was able to get a few myself, but the clouds rolled in before I was finished. Oh well, there's always 2007!

I'm glad you had some luck, Bob, we were overcast last night, thanks for sharing your look at it.

Excellent, Bob, and I'm so glad someone managed to get a photograph of this. It was cloudy here too. :( Wonderful composition, terrific detail, perfect exposure. :)

Really cool. I like the way it looks like an orange or something tipped on it's access with that little navel thing on the bottom. It's so clear. You did an excellent job with this shot.

Regards,
megan
