I got this idea as I drove home after the Yankees were embarrassed by the Red Sox, not only tonight, but in the entire ALCS. I thought of a painting that I saw in the Art Institute of Chicago by On Kawara. The canvas is all black, and in acrylic is this: "OCT.31,1978" This was part of a series called "Today." On Kawara did over 2,000 of these "date paintings" since 1966. According to the description in the museum, these paintings called "attention to the meaning of time, the working processes of the artist, and the very definition of art and creativity." For me, what I have created symbolizes a black date in history. I couldn't decide what to title it, since I had many ideas running through my head ("I'm a loser," "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," "I'll Cry If I Want To," "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted," "Where Have You Gone Joe Dimaggio" and a bunch of others). So not only does this describe my feelings on this date, but it also calls to question was is art and creativity.
I hear ya, Daniel. I was lucky enough to attend the first game, which the Yanks thankfully one. I could not express my sentiments better than you have here!
