I do so love the sillu...silouweee...the silouetttee... well, the shadow look. Ya grabbed a piece of photographic heart wiff this one. ColoUrs in the back and the silhouette effect in the front. For whatever reason...I like the look.
(and not a drop of crazy glue to be seen! well done!)

I don't think I've ever seen so many alternate versions of a picture posted under comments before. I like both of your fence photos. I looked at this and formed an opinion before looking over comments, so I'll send a version to try to help you break a record. I don't see that silhouettes need detail other than sharpness, and the 1/3's rule needs to be considered a guideline more than a rule.

Excellent capture ,the silouettes and the sky are superb,I would suggest a little cropp on the bottom which as I can see was alrady done

I was looking up at it..I was sitting way down on the lower end of a hill looking up at it. If I drove to the top, the sun was toobright. I got lens flash and all kinds of crap.. I haven't figured it all out yet. I tried a nd4 on the 230 af, and it had a sky filter on..all I got was a ton of reflections. even with a lens hood. sighhhhh

I had a TL Electro X until very recently. I gave it to a friend of mine. I gave about 4 old classic sets away, I had too many. I still have the Electro, that I don't use. I haven't tried it yet, bought it a couple years ago. I use my FX3 and FRII a lot. Just got a 230 af the other day. Thanks for the advice and comments by the way :)

Of course I think you should always go with your first instinct. Your first cropping makes the fence look like it's up higher and you're looking up at it. Goes nicely with looking up at the sunset. And your signature changes the balance too. I don't think the bottom edge needs cropping.

Forgot to mention, I see you have a love of Yashicas. Have you ever had a TL Electro X. I had one for a number of years until a burglar decided he could use it. I thought it fantastic. At the time a pal had a Pentax 500 and my E X would knock spots of that with regard to metering.

Hi Rebecca. Firstly thanks for your recent comments. This shot I love but I agree with Ken in so much as I find myself wanting to see a teeny bit more detail in the foreground. To this end I've tweaked as attached. Hope you don't mind, it is just my personal taste. You and maybe many others would disagree. Whatever way, it is a terrific shot and thanks for sharing.

This would also look good as a panorama with some of the dark cropped from the bottom but either way its still nice!

i agree with your example where you cropped from bottom..my first thought was that there was no need for all of that black on bottom..very vivid sunset with nice fence line silhouette..ask Sassy if "suset" is the Canadian spelling for sunset..LOL..;> ...Shameless

This is a great image. I like the colors and composition, too. I think it can be improved by cropping off a bit at the bottom just a little above your name, just so the dark foreground is not equal to or larger than the background, and darkening the blue sky at the top. Adding a little bit more saturation does not hurt.

Your revised one works well too, Rebecca. It has more feeling of a big open space than my revision, while mine puts more emphasis on the sunset. I can't say either is better, just slightly different. (Now isn't that politically correct?) Since the raw material (original picture) is good, there's more than one good finished product.

I like what you've done, Ken. I actually took this shot several times. On 3 of them, there is more sky and less dark foreground. I know all about the rules of thirds etc..but for some reason I keep returning to the one centered in the middle!!! Go figure. Maybe it's something deeply embedded in my mind, or perhaps from a previous life . lol.. Thanks for your comments and advice. Both are always greatly appreciated.

Nice color and composition! Two possible improvements: Boost contrast in the dark areas so the fence is a little more visible there, and/or crop off the lower 2/3 or so of the dark area plus a little off the top. (Sounds like a haircut!) One possibility is attached.
