This is Greer Island, off the coast of Sarasota, FL., in the Gulf of Mexico. The fallen trees are somewhat ironic, as they were planted to stop the erosion that they became a victim of. The area is accessible at low tide, though you have to wade through the Gulf a bit to get here. The photo was taken with a Nikon F2SB and a Fisheye Nikkor 8mm/2.8 - a fantastic lens with many creative possibilities.
Thanks for your comment, Stuart. These trees aren't down due to storms - at least not just one, anyway. This is a perfect example of poor planning by the city fathers. Fortunately, the hurricanes haven't hit this side of Florida with any significant effect. You live here with the knowledge that it might all blow or wash away one day.
