About Looking up to the ever diminishing Bow Glacier. the pointy peek is Mt. Saint Nicholas. When I was in my 20's we would hike up there after working all day at a ski area then sleep in an alpine hut there. The next day we would ski all day . Hiking up and then skiing down. Not sure I could even hike there at all now never mind in a couple of hours....LOL

Hi Lee
ahh yeah tough choice B.C. or Hawaii ... I'm partial to here, but then there isn't as much shopping over here, I guess it depends on what you are in to.....hmmm a tan would be nice too..lol.
I guess I'm into more wild places, although I hear there are some islands that are not very tourist oriented.
On another note I think that the composition is always first. If that isn't working then it is very hard to get the rest to work. The best way to improve on compositions is to shoot sheer volumes of images.the more the better as the conventional images will start to bore you and you will start to gravitate to more sophisticated types of compositions. Since digital photography, the sheer number of photos I have been able to take has improved my skills in composition enormously.
Hey have fun where ever you decide to go.

wow Tim you have a big portfolio....lol
The wife and I made it to this point viewing I would say 80% of the images.
The wife (Dolly) made a comment that made me smile....she said that you have the eye and I should study your work very hard :)
She is right, the start of a good image is the composition then comes everything else.
Sorry we didn't comment as we surfed....but we enjoyed the visit very much.
Dolly really likes the rock shore shots as we love walking tide pools.
Not sure if we will make it to Canada this year she is talking maybe Hawaii.....tough decision I would be content either way.
Lee
btw Awesome shot here !

I think that this photo is one of the weaker images that I have put up lately and agree that it has some minor problems. I can't remember if there was something in the way that forced me to be where I was physically in this situation. I tried to add contrast to the tree to bring it forward and separate itself from the mountain background. All in all it was a compromise.
Thanks for your observation, if in the future I have the opportunity to shoot this again I'm sure I will try something different. Tim :)

Hi Tim, Bloody impressive how you manage to upload such brilliantly beautiful photos on UF. Each new one even more impressive than the previous one. Awesome shot. I like the composition with the tree in the foreground, as that adds a lot to the build up of the scene. I only wonder if it would have been possible to take a few steps to the left, keeping the background composition as is, but placing the tree in the foreground to the right of the center line. I think that would balance the composition even better, and make the tree and tones of of it come out stronger, maybe even placing it against the sky by choosing a lower camera position. Closing the composition more by doing that is IMO only a minor concession....

Great shot, and I like the one you posted below too. Very clean and simple.

Cheers,

Hugo

tim.... did you take any shots without the small bush in front? i'd like to see one with only water in the foreground and mountain in the back.

i grew up in manitoba, and lived in alberta for a few years as a kid, but that was all before i was into photography. now i have a reason to get back to that part of the country.

How much bluer can a sky get? Awesome sight - the water is flat like a mirror ... stunning reflections.

PS : I have not commented much lately due to a very slow connection but have tried to catch up with your work. All outstanding Tim - congrats!

Lovely color as usual. I'm finding it a bit heavy on the right. I think the foreground tree gets a little bit lost in the mountain behind. Lots of good elements here to work with. Well done.

Hi Tim,

This photograph is simply beautiful! What a view! What more would one want?

In addition to all the obvious beauty here, I especially like the 'sort of' diamond on the left side that sort of frames the top part of the tree! Really neat!

Wonderful work,
Lori :)

Looks like we survived the mountaineering part of our lives and now to capture all the great things that, that kind of experience has opened up for us. I was mostly a rock climber some mountain stuff and ice climbing as well but I was losing 1-2 friends a year in that pursuit. Fortunately I had a child with my wife and that slowed me down and I didn't end up in a coffin next to all my friends. Poor buggers allot of them were never found and are most likely part of a glacier. :(
Warm regards , Tim

Tim,

I have the same memmories. Many years ago I was a mountaineer, visiting The Alps and the Himalaya. Sadly my body has got the edge on my ambition now, and its very rare I get more than a few miles into the hills.

This is a great image by the way. Theres a real nice repetition in form with the tree and the peak. Very well composed and exposed.

Good work. I like it.

I think Ken, the best time to visit is the fall. September up to Oct. the best colors come out then plus way less people milling around. The temp can be fairly cool or still very hot so bring some warm clothes and shorts....you just never know in the Rockies. A camera would be handy too....LOL
