About Dedicated to all Indians on their worldwide Day!!!

This is RAONI (wearing a Cast), a Kayapó leader, named Raoni Mentuktire.
You might have seen him through TV and on several STING's music concerts.

RAONI is a Txucarramae Indian Chief and i got so lucky to meet him and help produce a Video Documentary called "The Zipline Project" for Network Ten TV Australia, directed by the prestigious TV Director, STEPHEN HENLEY: the blond guy, wearing a blue Polo shirt, sitting in front of The Indian Leader and proeminent Chief.
David Lorusso, the skillful Cameraman, wears long deep-green shirt rolled up to his elbows, sits on a side chair and meditates while they listen to FUNAI's (Indian Foundation) translator help on Raoni's "Demarcation-And Then What?" speech.
Brazil takes a step, but its commitment to protecting indigenous lands is not proven yet...
Brazilian Government authorized demarcation of the Yanomami Indian Territory of some 36,000 square miles in the states of Roraima and Amazonas.
Yanomami territory, the single largest Indigenous area, is rich in many mineral deposits, as Gold and Uranium. Located on the frontier with VENEZUELA, it is difficult to defend from incursions by Outsiders because of its large physical proportions, mountainous terrain and dense Rain Forest. The Indians who live in such Area are semi-nomadic, living in small villages with no central authority and divided into often hostile factions.
Because of gold miners' invasion, many of the 9,000 Yanomami have contracted chronic "contact" diseases such as malaria. It would be very difficult, under these circumstances, to defend their own vast territory.
According to Brazil's Indian protection agency (FUNAI) regulations, UN and the Rainforest Foundation, all Indigenous territory must be physically demarcated, usually by clearing a strip through the deep Forest and placing markers 200 yards apart along the entire perimeter, including riverbeds. Signs are found, Warning that Outsiders may not enter! These symbolic barriers do not protect Indigenous territory from invasions, though...
This area is in the midst of deeep RainForest but unfortunately wood-choppers, precious stones and gold miners, sprouts + seeds seekers, both Pharmaceutical and Perfume Industry reps. continuosly disrespects the areas causing many injures on Nature and it's inhabitants.
Out of some 500-odd indigenous areas in Brazil, fewer than half of this Area have been demarcated: 89 have not even been designated as Indigenous Territories yet, the first step in the lengthy process.
Some interesting Info.can be found here:
http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/MRC/EthnographyVid.html

This was a LifeTime Experience!
RAONI had a great impact in my Life through his words and deeds to the whole Indian reality; as he is never fighting not only for his Txucarramae Tribe... as he calls himself a representative to ALL Indians who claims respect.
So... here it is: my profound RESPECT to these great Leaders out there and all Indian rich and Contentious knowledge on their Day!

Image was scanned from the 10x15 photo using a ViewStation AS6E Artec flatbed.
Photo was taken by peeping though the door at RAONI's home where Meeting was taking place.

hiya, Steve!

Thanks for visiting Raoni's place!
yes, dearest Friend, i tried to 'invite' the viewer to come to the intimate living-room where this great Indian Chief lives...
the Direction of the Documentary, Stephen Henley, is the blond guy sitting on the floor and the Aussie Cameramen, David, is sitting on a chair -- beside the Director -- as far as the bearded guys they are all from Indian Regulations support Foundation.
i was doing production and video reporter that once... *wink*

i often try to add some extra information through 'About' and here Comment Area so i can share some more of what has really happened that day... *sparkle*BIG*smile*
Hope these Infos. are not too much... as people have the chance NOT to read if they find tiring, i guess!
Ohhh............. You like me wearing the Indian garnment, uhn?!? BLUSSSSH
that felt really empowering that day, Steve!
i held the camera and took the shot my self...
i borrowed it for a little time, but the gentleman that lent me had a frown in his face...
i didn't want to disrespect their Cuture, so i rushed and took the snapshot with no light etc... just for a record of that piece of Indian wear with flamingo feathers (?)... and gave it back in a sec.!!!

to tell you truth, Steve, i was veeery impressed with Raoni's speech... and his moral and personal strengh for the Indians (all Tribes), not only his own, made a huge difference to my Understanding of the World.

Thank YOU for taking the time to read out my text and Piccies, my Friend!

hey............ Steve: Congratulations for the beautiful Cyprus photo with Your handsome son at a gorgeous yatch! Lovely weather, uhn?!?

This work is almost surreal in its ability to embrace and convey the atmosphere of dignity and friendship.
The tone and the certain level of fuzziness only elevate the overall vitality of the work.

  0

Richard Thornton   {K:26442} 8/10/2004
This time, your choice of medium works well, I think. The muted tones and overall low key seems to invite us into the intimate circle of friends. (The bright cast is really a centerpiece.) Your accompanying text is always appreciated!
