About Henri Cartier-Bresson is widely recognized as one of the greatest photographers of the Twentieth Century.
Henri Cartier-Bresson was a shy Frenchman who elevated "snap shooting" to the level of disciplined and refined Art.
His sharp-shooter's ability was excelled by catching "the Decisive Moment".
Cartier-Bresson's literate comments about the theory and practice of photography made him a legendary figure among contemporary Photojournalists.
His prints are beautifully made signed on the front, under the image.
Born in Chanteloup, France, of prosperous middle-class parents.
He owned a Box Brownie as a boy, using it for taking holiday snapshots,
and later experimented with a 3 X 4 view camera.
But he was also interested in Painting and studied for two years in a Paris Studio. This early training in Art helped Bresson to develop the a sensitive eye for Composition, which was one of his greatest assets as a Photographer.

This Master of Photography, left this world on a rainy Monday, first week of August's, but will be always living within the Collective Unconscious
and through the work of people, that like us, are pursueing to make eternal some precious moments witnessed by us.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3536724.stm

Henri Cartier-Bresson will be always present thanks to UseFilm.com who's increadibly supporting people's dreams and ideals worldwide!!!

Thank YOU!

This image upload was possible with the great help of Mario Luiz Thompsom
who has amazing technic and visited poor areas as the 'Alagados' (swamp houses -- slums located in the poorest areas in town) in Bahia and found this little boy playing an imaginary guitar
made with salvation wood and nails to hold his imaginary strings...

Image was scanned from the 10x15 photo using a ViewStation AS6E Artec flatbed.

Dearest Kim,

Thank YOU for taking the time to visit my Portfolio...

yes, i was touched, like You, when i first saw the little kid playing with salvation wood making belief he was a rock star and was making real music out of his "guitar"...

my heart melts for the ones in greater needs... this is why i am focusing on doing Volunteer work with children at the shelter... they have so little left, but still their eyes have a glow and pursue Happiness within their grasp reaching out and touching Volunteer Teachers, Visitors that care enough to go visit them and share some quality time in their company!

these are priceless presents we offer... our time and care and hugs and smiles!
...that cannot be bought in Convenient Stores or Shopping Malls!

so... i feel we are very rich... at heart!

we offer out best... and get back so much!!!
i am grateful for being of use to society where i belong.

my Compliments for the superb Serie of "Mother Teresa House", my Friend.

my Family use to help as Volunteers in places like this Leprosis Hospitals the past 20 years.
This is really touching and has a special place in our hearts.

Thank YOU for sharing, Kim: http://www.usefilm.com/image/557754.html

This is an amazingly dynamic work which comes to prove the greatness of Bresson's approach to the photo art. Your image is extremely vibrant, yet subconciousely tense and rich. I became a little bit "richer" seeing this great work!!!
My greatest regards to you as an artist.

Dearest Christine,

Glad i was able to add some information to both dear Friends like You and Steve Bowden...
i think this is why we are here for: to exchange seeds of knowledge and help each other as we all grow as individuals, i think...
*sparkle*

i happened to know Cartier-Bresson's work, as well as Franz Krajcberg and Sebastiao Salgado ::: that truly boosted my mind with their ideas and photographic concepts to an extent, through technical training at the University when i took classes...
i got luck i had amazing inspiring Professors at that time, that are with me within what i learned from them, in every step on my way!

it's funny, Christine... we meet people, some go away and a FEW stay with bonds that no Convenience store would ever please us, i strongly believe!

*wink*

Have a wonderful weekend, my Friend!
in case You would enjoy a couple Links to these two other fellows's works, pls let me know and i will be happy to e-mail You, as UseFilm is NOT allowing us to have published any Link other than within our own web-site, Dear!
This might be the reason why many of my posts do not show... they were NOT added, as i like those juicy, Contentious stuff... not allowed by Editor's guideline.

Congratulations for "Burgoyne Woods", Christine...
it's terrific place!

my Best,
Regina

Dearest Steve,
we used to study Henri Cartier-Bresson
at the Photography Class at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro with Dante Gastaldoni, Guilherme Sias and Osvaldo Caldeira (now in Movies doing BIG screen)...
where we also had precious guidance that really broaden our view by carefully studying the photographic work of the polish, born
in Kozienice, called FRANZ KRAJCBERG and UNICEF's Program "Changing the workld with Children" another awarded photographer, SEBASTIAO SALGADO, worth visiting his posts both at The New York Times and Unicef, that i highly recommend!

These guys had a great impact in my Life and many people i know
and care about and learned to respect their Opinions...
and i now take the chance to share with my univ. students and YOU all this Juicy Content, Steve!!!
*sparkle*

UseFilm is not allowing me to post web addresses outside of their web-site, unfortunately, because i feel we could share and interact with many Contentious web-sites.

Steve: i admire Your work very much!
keep up the great job!!!

my Best,

Regina Rianelli   {K:24147} 8/6/2004
Thanks, Steve...
we studied very carefully, in our Photography classes offered by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson
as well as the work of the polish, born in the city of Kozienice, Franz Krajcberg: --- who melted photography and sculpture in a strong and very unique way while he makes protests against Amazon Forest devastation ----
i met him once in one of his shows ten years ago and that fact broaden my horizons for good.
A few of Krajcberg's
impresive works can be seen here:
http://perso.club-internet.fr/lanore/fkphoto.html
and the Morgenwelt, Berlin's Revue, writes about Krajcberg's Bio + works and calls him a "Prophet" of his own time (worth the time and reading):
http://www.morgenwelt.de/futureframe/000529-krajcberg.htm
and other talented souls,
like Sebastiao Salgado, who has a special Section in The New York Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/specials/salgado/home/
... and Salgado's works donated to UNICEF for te rights of the Children to BE in a Project called "Changing the World WITH CHILDREN" at:
http://www.unicef.org/salgado/
... just to name a few worth making an effort to get to know their work!
BLUSSSH
sorry,my Friend:guess i got carried away,it feels!

sorry it wasn't clear to You...
the two upper pictures were taken by Mario Luiz Thompson a professional Photographer --
many times awarded in my country due to his shots of musical reps. of our MPB (Brazilian Popular Music).
Mario Luiz gave me those phographs as a present, as i do Volunteer work with slum kids for over 20 years now...
Friends like him, and Ruy Marra (UF member), knew i appreciated Children's photographs and that i would also share THEIR WORK with my University students, so they can learn through Image.
i teach about 300 young people each semester Arts and Communications, Media and Broadcast...

i use UseFilm in my Classes a lot!
Steve Bowden has even made a web-Conference to my students and told them step-by-step how he made his "bee playing the Trumpet" and many others talented works of his that caught my student's attention... so we exchange a lot and Steve helped encouraging 3rd World Country univ. students to grow into better professionals and try their best with what's within their grasp!

Hugo, Mario Luiz and my Daddy are professional photographers, not me... i only do journalism and my work is often destinied to my Clients (Publishers) who OWN the Copyright of my work (both text and photo).

*wink*

I have Included in this Comments Area a THIRD photo with a kid selling kites on the street...
that's my work, while i was doing some free-lancing to NetWork Channel 10 TV Australia with Stephen Henley, who was directing a Documentary on impact and exploitation of the Amazon Forest and we got to travel a lot throughout the country!

while i was producing the Documentary named "The ZipLine Project" and being the V-Reporter for Network 10, i watched many many little kids working, instead of studying, in order they would help suport their families.
i took this photo in a moving car towards the airport, right after a rain storm: it's why the street pavement is blue... reflecting the sky above!

*sparkle*

Thanks for taking the time to visit my work, Hugo!

my Best,
Regina

Hi Regina, I found your intersting report about Henri very interesting to read. Untill a few nights ago, I only knew his name, and had seen a few of his most famous shots, but as in so many cases, the legend became alive after his death.

I do like this shot, it has the old faded look of the early days of photography. Reading your comment, I cannot decide who took it, Mario or You....) A great job, very well done!

Cheers,

Hugo

This is one street shot of mine at Porto Velho, Rondonia state north Brazil, where they dig for gold within the Amazon Forest and children, this boy's age, sadly, work to help support $ their families instead of attending school...

The scanned print has a grittiness that seems to go with the image and its subject.
