About Having some trouble making this film do what I want. It seems quite easy to blow it out the highlights. Scanned negative.

Pretty nice exposure on this one, I think.

Hi Hugo - not much gets by you. I wish the pavement did not get quite as close to the bottom of that tree as well :-)
The PAN F Plus 50 does seem sensitive to overexposure. Another thing to be aware of is that the latent image retention is not great - not a roll to keep in the camera for a long time before you develop.

Hi Stefan, I think the shrill contrast between the remnant of the tree with the background does it's job. Besides, it doesn't appear to be blown out to me. I only think you could've tried panning down a bit, as that might balance the composition a bit better.

My photo-shop gave me one roll of this film to try out. Haven't done that yet, but I will let you know what I think of it.

The shot itself, apart from the closely composed area near the roots of the trunk is quite subtle. The DOF, the high level of focus and details is very well captured.

Cheers,

Hugo

This general image is pretty much what I was after, but it seems that I overexposed the film (there is not much in the way of highlight detail) although I was trying to take care not to. I don't think this film has more or less contrast than other B/W films, but I have seen other warn about it being a little tempramental.

Were you trying for something different with this shot? I bet that there is a ton of contrast with a B&W 50 ISO film... probably pretty hard to find the right exposure!
It stands out really well against the darkened bg and I really like the amount of detail in the leaves at the bottom.
