stefan, i bow to you! ;^) what an incredible idea! i think you're going to inspire a lot of camera obscura shots in the near future. seeing it in color is yet another revelation. i built one of these when i was a kid from a coffee can but used b&w film instead. not quite the same experience. this deserves an award simply for it's sheer experimentalism.

take care,
tom

Hi Svend - the box is my bedroom so I didn't have to build that, just cover up the windows. I agree with you about the colors and while I am not sure why it looks that way, I think the long exposure is part of it. It is really a wonderful thing to see if you have some cardboard, masking tape and a little time to play.

Wow... let me get this straight: you made a light-tight box with a small hole, and you placed the camera into the box and opened the shutter so it could record the reversed camera obscura image? Wouldn't the camera get in the way? There sure is a special quality to this picture which I like. It has a bit of "painting with lightness" about it but with a deeper luminosity that is very attractive. There is a strange effect of depth, too particularly seen in the picture on the wall and how it seems to float against the wall rather than sit on it.

Hi Kim - haven't seen the movie but I can feature this look in a horror flick. I'm glad you noticed the duplication of the bed - not intended but a nice bonus nevertheless.

What a wild dream-like image. I like the double bed floating above the real bed.
It's like catching nighlty visitations on film... love the green colour too... reminds me of Stephen King's The Tommyknockers. Everything had this eerie green glow.

Hi Ian - it is definitely there - it has been verified by two cameras now :-) Our eyes are incredible instruments, the image is clearly visible to the naked eye although it takes integration to really appreciate the colors.

Hello Arwa - take a look at the preceeding shot: http://www.usefilm.com/image/826279.html, it explains it a little bit. A camera obscura is literally a "dark room". It is dark with the exception of one small source of light coming from a hole to the outside. Opposite to the hole there will be an image of the scene outside. It is quite dark in the room and in this case I am shooting at an angle so the aperture had to be relatively small. That and the fact that film needs even more exposure when you expose it for a long time led to the quite long exposure... Search on the net for "camera obscura" if you want to know more. Cheers, S.
