Ted --
Thanks for all your comments! I do look what you've done on this one. I'm going to try increasing the contrast and see if I can get the same result!
Regards, Anne

It really is beautiful when you make the white parts white. The shadows are magnificent. I tried to crop a little and make the contrast as I like it. Maybe you like it too. (Hope so) Ted

I didn't really notice the "bowtie" effect, and the red flower is actually a yummy blackberry growing on the vine! This was also taken on a windy afternoon, although it wasn't quite as bad as the fuschia! I can see I need to pick what I think is the best light and then go lighter than that!
I'm going to see if I can do this one from the side. I like that idea.
Thanks again!
Regards, Anne

You've done a good job capturing the texture of the blossoms here.
I agree with Linn's comments.

Hi Anne
Great detail, good focus.
Same comment here - it needs lightening up. Also, less background at the bottom of the image?
If I had to be picky I would want to see the white "bow tie" and red flower in the background removed.
Anne, if you really want to have great fun with your macro setting - start shooting flowers like this one from the side. You see how high and prominent those stamens are? Now picture how that will look from the side! These are the kind of flowers that gives me a lot of fun - interesting centres!
Linn
