Dear Chris, this is one of my favourite subjects, rocks and flowers/grasses. Something that makes good shots. Yours is very beautiful and you did a great job in PS, though you mentioned it was not viewable before.I like the lower part of the shot where the flowers seem to lean on the rocks. Thank you for your comments at my photos. You are more than generous with your appreciations. My very best to you, dear Friend, Gabriela

A wonderful photo of these lovely stones! Very sharp and on my screen the light looks great!
I don't know how your camera works, but perhaps there is a choice of having ND filter on and it's turned on?

Hi Chris, Sorry... Can't help you with Mac... But If you regisered your D100 online, there is supposed to be a online service section by Nikon, where you can download a large variety of software, including Nikon Capture. Don't know if it's region bound, but you could try at

Absolutely! I was just about to write the same! The contrast is so evident - though it compliments each other beautifully too.
Nature is just too darn wonderful :-)

Thanks again Hugo! This colour profile thing sounds interesting. Do you know if it works with Macs? If so, could you let me have the URL? The next step is that the camera shop are sending the camera back to Nikon, who will hopefully give it a good overhaul ~ dealing with the dead pixel, the dusty sensor and the metering problem. I've been told it'll take 3-4 weeks. Frustrating!! But in the meantime the shop are loaning me a Minolta Dimage 7hi. Thanks for your interest and help. Kind regards, Chris

Wow!! Doesn't look too good...:( I'm sure you checked the options menu? There you can set the default exposure correction.
In Nikon capture, you can also download the colour profile from your camera to the PC, and check if anything has gone wrong there. When I got my Nikon D100, I found its settings a bit dark too (by far not as dark as these, though) and downloaded a more bright and vivid colour profile from the internet, which was close to my liking. Playing around in Nikon capture, I managed to tweak it a bit more. Now the colours come out as the first one of my current triptych.
I'm still no expert on the D100, though, but I'd be happy to help. Tom Rumland is also a very good person to ask. He taught me alot, too....
What's the next step? Will the camera shop replace it?
Cheers,
Hugo

Hello Hugo, Thanks for your comment ~ much appreciated. Actually this was one of the few pictures I took with the new-to-me Nikon that came out of the camera reasonably okay. But I shall try and post one that didn't within one of my next few uploads just to show what the problem was. basically, in most situations and conditions, the camera was under-exposing by around 3 or 4 stops with the result that around 80-90% of my shots were unbelievably dark.
On second thoughts, here's a sample?

Chris, the work was worth it. Beautiful crop and lovely colours. You might want to try centre weighted metering, I often find this works better with the S2.

Hi Chris, Metering with the Canon is a little bit iffy too, I have mine set to underexpose by 1/2 to 2/3 stop because I know the meter over calculates. I only worked this out by trial and error, but now its set permanently that way its no problem.
As for the image here, its very good compositionally, shame that theres an out of frame rock just poking its elbow in on the left, and you have managed to just nip the bottom off the pinks. However these are minor irritations on what is really a superb image.
Cheers

Very nice Chris...I also like the contrast of soft against hard...and also the delicate color of the flowers against the harsh color of the rock. The composition is great....Gloria
