About Taken in the "Barcelona Forum 2004". This installation tries to explain the amount of money a third world coffee maker receives for the money you pay for a cup of coffee in the first world. Numbers are really scary. Please, visit Barcelona 2004 and learn how to make the world a better place (and enjoy a beautiful day with the cultures of the world).

My opinion is different from yours but the matter is not related to photography so I won't elaborate here :-)

Hi Matej,

yeah, all of that was into account. There's supposed to be an strange relationship between helps that governments of third world give to the people that plant coffee and the aranceles and the rates and customs paid when this coffee is imported in Europe. (It looks like we get more money with our customs than the money we give as help to the third world people that plant coffee, what a business!!!). Today it's possible to buy in Spain fair trade coffee that's supposed to not punish the most weak link in the chain (the farmer) in favour of the most powerful and rich. Photographically speaking, many thanks for your comments :). I agree with you statistics are never reliable! (but we all know how we exploit third world in order to maintain and "improve" our life style).

Hi Rafa, when the thumbnail popped up on the commenting screen, I guessed this would be yours :-)
Nicely composed, and the DOF with the contrast work well together to direct attention to the black cup.
Do you know if the installation takes into account purchasing powers, average wages, transportation costs, bureaucratically introduced import/export/processing barriers, etc? Sometimes numbers are intentionally made look scarier than they are, and other times they don't look as scary as they should :-(
You know the saying, "I only trust the statistics I manipulated myself" :-)
