Special thanks to Al and the UF staff. I hope to respond to everybody appropriately, but It'll take some time...;o) Busy weekend ahead!

Hi Emgy, I know this reply is even later, but I just wanted to express my thanks to you too. I feel flattered by it, and believe me when I say that those compliments you give me apply to your work as well. I check your portfolio regularly to see if you have uploaded another image. Your input on UF, both in your comments as well as in your photos is invaluable.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Hugo
I've been too busy lately and absent from UF for a while. It's always a shame to realize that I have missed lots of beautiful and interesting shots like this one. I love it, or better, I love the whole series. This is just a common object but you captured it so beautifully that I can say you made it the star of the show, like you did with the other objects of this series. The show, in this case would be our life where the film roll has always played and still plays a very important role.
Your fujifilm is beautiful and I like a lot the way you captured it, standing superbely and proud on the colourful and shining mess of cd's.
My favourite of the three. I may be wrong, but for me, you put in this one your feelings and your great passion for photography in a more obvious way than in your other shots. Technically, nothing particular to remark. It's just a great shot in all ways and I'm adding it to my favourites.
P.s.
A while ago, exactly one day after my featured chritique (nothing really special but I guess it was meant as Al's thanks to me for the time I spent helping him during the troubles with the UF site), I saw the main page dedicated completely to you. A great honour and I know you deserved and deserve it, not only for your great work as a photographer but also for the many constructive comments on users' work. I know I always learn a great deal by reading them. Anyway, the reason why I am writing this last part is that I'd like to congratulate you for being on the main site. I know it's late, but I had no time to do it any sooner, nor have I had any time to dedicate to UF lately. I just didn't feel like writing a simple congratulation message then.
My best regards - Emgy

Yes, Hugo, filling the first page is a great responsibility...but you deserve it.

This is another great work...you did it again.. but I?m commenting it because my friend Márcio Costa has posted a image similar to this (not so well composed) and I want you take at look at it... if you have time...(image/410698.html). Like you and others UF members, Márcio has been teaching me a lot about photographing and editing photos.
Thank you!
Congrats!
Regards,
Carmem

excellent, hugo! this picture makes it infinitely clear to me that you wouldn't be able to fit a bottle (photo 2 in series) in this composition. number 2 is very interesting as it confuses your sense of scale (well, it confuses my sense of scale). the glass looks like a full pint even though the bottle cap is mighty big, my brain perceived it as a perspective distortion and ignored the size difference. never mid the size of the CDs, that went completely over my sense of perspective.

this one is much better scaled. i don't find it as interesting as number 2 because it is more straightforward. less thinking required to "see" the image. there we go with the physics again ;^)

i particularly the dof and angle of view in this one. not exactly even focus and a slight downward bend. excellent shot! very well done!!

take care,
tom

PS - remind me later by email, when you have time, to ask you a question about the series.

Interesting and surely original composition Hugo. A try to composed digital and film photos? Xexexe... well because I am a bad photographer, I prepher digital one simple because I can take 1000s bad photos for one good! :-)
Anyway, I think this must NOT be a collage. The depth - perspective is strong on the film and the colours from all these CD's makes a surepy modern and very unique composition!
